The Long Ride Home

We had stopped for gas here on the outskirts of Detroit on the way into town. When The Mister went in for a soda he came out a changed man. All I heard for the rest of the trip was that we had to stop here for donuts on the way home. Before we pulled out of the lot he made me write down the directions for the trip back so we didn't miss it.

This is the weather we ran into coming home through Ohio, Pennsylvania and finally Maryland. If I had to miss the MDSW this was a good year to do it. I bet it was a muddy mess. Needless to say stopping with Pup at the rest stops was not as fun as it was on the way up in the sunshine.

We left Detroit at 6:30 am and rolled into home at 5 pm. Neither of us had slept the night before from all the coffee we drank at the reception so we headed out as soon as the sun came up. Too exhausted to cook dinner, the Chinese take out place down the street came to the rescue.

So did the bottle of wine Daughter left behind when she left for the airport. I brought it home with me.

Those donuts The Mister had to have were dessert and they did not disappoint in spite of the long car ride.

Happily all the kitties both inside and out were accounted for. It took them awhile to realize their people were back. Having a stranger in the house for four days probably freaked them out. It's going to take them awhile to get back into our usual routine. Me too.

  1. I'm so glad you're safely home. Those long car rides are hard on a body aren't they? Especially the older we get...at least for me. :-)
Those donuts look amazing. Fried dough and chocolate. It doesn't get any better than that.
    Blessings,

  4. Glad you are back at home, sweet home. Those donuts look pretty tasty!

My personal trainer in Orlando was from Buffalo and he raved about Tim Horton's.

  5. Oh - if only you and the Mr. could have had Tim Horton's before the Burger King corp. bought them and ruined them. They used to make the donuts fresh in-store, and they were so much bigger and better. Tim's may be Canada's most ubiquitous donut shop... but most Canadians are losing our love for them. I get an iced cappuccino and a box of timbits every so often when there's no other option, but otherwise we avoid them.

Hope the kitties get back to normal soon! Enjoy home, sweet home!

  7. Had a catch-up read of your week of adventures - so happy that everything went so well! I've been at Disney World (for the first time!) with my three children, their OHs and the ten grandchildren and had a blast! I'm also happy to be home, settling back in and getting laundry done.

  8. I typed a comment and it disappeared so this may be a second comment. If so, sorry. Glad the bad weather was at the end of the trip/weekend. The return trip always seems longer to be because I just want to be home again. Glad all the animals made it thru your absence. Good luck on unpacking and getting back into your normal routine. From your posts, you created some wonderful memories over the weekend.

  10. Our cats freak out too , unless Zach is home and watches them. You'd think they would just sleep until we return...but they are smart and loving and that's why they miss us
