Kitty City

Finally we got the day I've been waiting for. It was cool and breezy with no humidity.

It was an open the window day. We haven't had one of those in ages. I was curing some newly cut soap in the breeze. I'll tell you all about it on Saturday.

So how did we spend our day? Mucking out the cat huts. On Monday I bought a car load of pillows to make kitty sleeping bags.

I make a little tent out of the pillows and insert this kennel heater in the middle. It keeps the kitty just the right temperature. It doesn't get too hot. We have four heated huts for our little friends who refuse to come in at night in the winter.

First we have to get rid of all the old bedding. I cycle the inside kitty's cat beds and blankies to the outside cats every year and buy the inside kitties new things.

It's not really cold enough yet for the pillows or the heaters to be turned on but we wire them up so we are ready. It won't be long.

We used to have them all up on the deck but this year we separated them into different areas of the yard. They seem to not be getting along as well as they used to. The new kitty that showed up last winter has upset the hierarchy of power and it always takes a while for them to settle in after a new member shows up. Mommy Kitty and Hoover used to beat the stuffing out of each other two years ago now they eat out of the same bowl. Cats. They are just the weirdest critters.

  1. You are so sweet to take such good care of the kitties. That is a lot of work and I’m sure that in their own cat way they appreciate it. We have had some beautiful weather in Spokane this week too. I’ve had the windows and doors open for the last two days, ever since we got home. I wish it could last all winter long. Many blessings, Betsy

  2. The winter cottages for your furry friends - I love it! It makes me sad that many people don't take the time to do this for their pets.

  4. I love how you and your husband take care of the cats that find their way to your home. What a wonderful system for outdoor cats. Hopefully, fall weather will hang around for a long time.

  5. I love the care you give your outdoor kitties. We have some possible fun news to share. Zach is taking in a foster this weekend. He wants something to come home to in his city apt. THere is a one year old female who was apparently super loving to humans at the shelter. Then she was permitted to be outside the cages and she is apparently very stressed being with the other cats and not showing well to adopters. Zach is a quiet, gentle soul. He will be patient with her. They think she'll blossom in quiet environment. It could be a win win all the way around. SHe's just lovely and I'll put her picture up when Zach takes some. She better get used to his camera lens.....

  7. I love all of your Motel 6 cat huts! Our six cats all got along until Will's 2 males really messed with the pecking order! We intervene when fur flies but try to let them work it out most of the time.
