Sheep!

I couldn't say it better myself. The MDSW is all about sheep.

I am happy to say that the 90 degree weather we had on Friday was gone. It was in the 70's and slightly drizzly. Perfect sheep viewing weather. It didn't however scare the crowds away.

It was totally worth elbowing my way into booths to see things like this.

And this. Be still my heart.

Speaking of my heart. Here are the stars of the fest. The elusive Swiss Valais Blacknose.  They had no idea how popular they were. One was sleeping and one wouldn't take his face out of the hay. They completely ignored the crowd of gawkers.

These sweet babies are only 6 weeks old and the only ones of their kind in the US. You can't see them but they are wearing their traditional bells around their fuzzy little necks.  The Mister had to drag me away from their pen. I hope they come back next year. I would love to see them grown.

We were sad to learn that the shepherd we watch every year had passed away. There were new dogs from a different farm who put on quite a show.

It wasn't a warm day but it was muggy. The dogs took a dip to cool off.

I had to pull off my socks to cool off after all the walking. It wasn't a day to see spectacular knitwear walk by. It might have been the threat of rain or the heat of the past week. No one was into wearing much wool this year.

Lunch was a root beer snow cone and fries. The lines for food were ridiculous. We were lucky to get this.

The fleece barn was practically empty. We had a good old time digging through the sea of bags.

I said I wasn't going to buy anything but of course I did. I can't go in a fleece barn and come out empty handed.

The big surprise of the day was the auction tent. It was packed full of practically brand new toys. It seems that a lot of people must buy these pricey things and then change their minds these days. I have never seen the tent so full of beautiful things. You could barely walk through it.

I did a bit more shopping on our way out. It seems the trend in yarn this year were these packs of gradient colors. They were every where and cost a fortune. I knew if I bought one it would just turn into a souvenir so as much as I admired them, I passed.

Whew. The only time I sat down was when I got back to the car and took a minute to photograph my goodies. Tomorrow I'll show you what's in the basket.

  6. Glad to hear the weather cooperated. I would have spent a lot of time admiring the adorable sheep, too. The treasures in the auction tent doesn't surprise me. I don't think some people realize the time commitment involved in learning and then practicing a new craft.

  8. What sweet little lambs! From the looks of the basket, you didn't come away empty-handed. Can't wait to see your purchases.

  9. Wow I’m jealous! I would love to be able to go to the MSWF sometime. Those sheep were so adorable. And the thought of digging through that fleece barn and seeing all of the wheels for sale is music to my soul. I sure wish I would have gone when Mandy lived in Maryland. We could have gone together! I can’t wait to see what you bought.
    Blessings, Betsy
