Ice, Ice Baby

It's been a long time since I've dusted off my skates.

I used to have them on several times a week doing crazy stuff like this. The last time I had them on was in 2020 but that was just for a quick spin around a little outdoor rink when Daughter and I went off to Nationals with her skating team .

Yesterday Daughter rented out the outdoor rink at Reston Town Center for an hour for Baby Grand's first birthday.

It was cold. 19 degrees with the wind chill factor but it was sunny. Once you started moving it wasn't too bad. She had plenty of hot coffee and cocoa on hand for the folks that came out to brave the cold.

Baby Grand wasn't too sure about all that slippery white stuff at first.

But Daughter figured out a way to make it work.

I had a great time out on the ice with the two Big Grands who were also having a great time flying around the ice. The Mister and Pup, who didn't get the benefit of being able to keep moving to stay warm, had a chilly morning-but we all lived to tell the tale. It was quite the early morning adventure for this trio of oldies.

  4. Happy Birthday,to your Grand! I don’t know how to skate, but my oldest sister learned when she was dating her soon to be husband. No one else in my family skated.

  5. Looks like a fabulous party. Glad you got out on your skates.

I always thought skating was the closest we would ever get to being able to FLY! I miss skating SO much.

Happy birthday to your Grand! I'm sure he'll be zipping around the ice with the big ones before you know it.

  6. Sounds like a fun birthday celebration! I can't remember when I last used my skates. Luckily when we took our grandkids to the local ice rink their cousin helped them learn. We just watched and took photos with the realization that if we ever tried to skate again and fell, we'd need to call 911 to get us back up!
