Happy Caturday

I would have LOVED to have spent yesterday lolliing around after Thursday's awful root canal adventure. It's sure nice not to have the toothache anymore but, man...what an ordeal. The stuff they shove in your mouth. The machines they hook up to you to do the 3D printing. It was nothing like the root canals I have had done in the past. Anyway.....at 9 am this guy was supposed to go get his mite check and meds but he wouldn't go. He's too smart and too strong to get in the cage even though I'd been practicing with him for two weeks. When he gets dug in somewhere, he gets dug in. It's like wrestling Edward Scissorhands. I'm not really worried about him having mites anyway. He never goes out. Never socializes with the other cats and spends most of his time hiding somewhere in the house where we are not.

Not to waste the appointment, we threw this one who is an indoor/outdoor kitty in the carrier instead and hoped for the best. It was his mite meds that we had used up on all the bigger indoor cats during the Big Itch and last week the vet said we couldn't have anymore until March even though SHE was the one who told us to use up his meds on the other cats rather than bring them in for treatment. Happily we saw another vet who was more than happy to give us a Revolution refill to last until his year anniversary in March. That was another $500 in vet bills. It never ends.

While we had cats on the brain we decided to stop by Walmart and get all the pillows we use to insulate the kitty huts in the winter. I sew them together at the top and make a tent like thing out of them. Then we stick an electric platform in the middle that we turn on at nights or when it's below freezing in the daytime.

When we got home we suited and gloved up and cleaned out the huts. I had cleaned them out a few weeks ago and put them up close to the house where the outdoor kitties eat so they can get used to seeing them again. I had put a quilted pad and a towel in each for the chilly nights. I needed to see if they had gotten wet during Ian's visit. They were all dry but obviously well used. I had to take out all the pads and give them a good wash and hang them in the sun to dry. Then I had to give myself a good washing because....ick. After what we went through last spring, there is no such thing as being too cautious.

By 2 O'Clock The Mister and I were done in. So done in we had a wee nip. It was so nice to be able to have a cold drink again without my tooth reminding me that it was not happy. The only thing that is hurting right now is my jaw. Two hours of having your mouth propped open with some weird doo hickey was not a lot of fun.

  1. You make amazing huts for the cats--kudos to you! I'm glad the root canal is behind you. I told the dentist last time I had a crown put in-I have to rest my jaw--a TMJ flare is not a pleasant side effect!

  2. I hope you're taking caturday to yourself!!!

A trick I use with hard two wrangle kitties (and this only work if you can get your hand on them in the first place), is to stuff the cat in a pillow case before they know what's happening - twist the top and hold it tight so they can't get out, and then shove them in the carrier real quick and shut the door. That's how I usually have to get Relic into a carrier, because he's big, strong, stubborn and has razor feet.

    1. Great idea! I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one with a problem kitty.

  3. It is so heartwarming to read about how you care for all the cats. I order Revolution from Chewy which is cheaper than purchasing it from my veterinarian. The price for a six month supply for a 50-15 lb cat is $134 and for a 15-22 pound cat is $137. All I had to do when I started ordering from Chewy was to provide the name and phone number and they did the rest. Putting it on autoship also saved 5%. I even order the insulin for my diabetic cat from Chewy. I am a very happy Chewy customer.

    1. The vet was out of Revolution so she suggested that I go through Chewy. I'm still waiting for it but it was an easy process.

  4. Sounds like you are a Wonderful kitty-mom! I want to hear more about a root canal with 3-D printing. I'm allergic to the stuff they make crowns out of. I have a few, sadly, and my gums around those teeth stay slightly irritated.
