If It's Not One Thing.....

Can you stand more kitchen drama? Come back tomorrow if you can't because I've got a real doozy.

Let me set the scene: It was dark and ominous all day and our phone alerts kept blowing up and scaring us to death.  We were trying to open up all those boxes and check out the new cabinets while dodging tornado warnings and heading to the basement.

Ida was the least of our problems though. When we ordered all the cabinets we did NOT order the one for over the fridge because I was planning on replacing the old refrigerator with something taller and wider and we were not sure what size we would need as we have a partial wall to consider and needed to do some serious shifting because of the new corner cabinet being larger than the one we have now.  We figured we'd order it later and then we forgot all about it when we were faced with the big delay. BIG mistake.

When we got all the old cabinets taken down and moved out of the way and measured we called to order the size we needed and OUR CABINET COLLECTION HAD BEEN DISCONTINUED AS OF AUGUST 30th. We got the last of them. You would have thought that they might have mentioned this over the past four months of going back and forth. If we had known we would have ordered that cabinet right away or canceled the whole order and went with another collection. We didn't get the matching kick plates either because we thought we would deal with it later when we did the floors. Argh...

We asked them what would have happened if one of the cabinets had been damaged in transit and they had no answer since none of them are replaceable. Lucky for us they are all fine. I could have sent the whole order back but they are saying it would be at least another 4 months to get another set in a different model so we decided just to deal with the empty space over the refrigerator which is going to look pretty awful.
What a mess this is turning out to be.

  1. Oh no Debbie! What next? On the bright side, you obviously didn't have a tornado hit the house, right? Scary days for sure.
Some days you just have to laugh. Otherwise the flip side is just to nasty to think about.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. Ah jeez, what a nightmare!! And having a potentially mix-matched kitchen after waiting so long?! Ditto what Betsy said about no tornado and finding a way to laugh... (easy for us to say, right?!)

  3. Crap. Double crap. That wasn't very nice of them. I bet you can find a close match someplace else...if not think out of the box! Like something with open shelves ...I know you will be able to match the paint if you take it into Ace Hardware they can match it. The cabinet above the fridge is over rated anyways....you have to get on a step ladder etc...and all that is up there is stuff you hardly ever use....hang in there!!

  4. That cabinet is always so hard to reach anyway. Maybe you can figure out another design element that will fit. Like a shelf for displaying items. Good luck with the cabinet installation. You will make it all work out!

  5. Oh geeze! I'm surprised (kind of and kind of not) that they didn't mention to you they were being discontinued. Luckily Ida has blown through and the temps are cooler now.

  6. Remodeling definitely is NOT for the faint of heart. I hope you’re able to get the items you need at a huge discount.

  7. Oh gee. We are having similar issues with a part for Dave's old Pontiac and I'm about ready to light the car on fire and call it a day!

  9. Is there a cabinet kicking around in a store somewhere? Maybe a display model?

  10. I am so sorry that this kitchen remodel is such a nightmare! Don't you hate it when you pay a lot of money for something and then it's just a hassle? I think Connie's idea is good. You could also hire a master carpenter to make the unit for over the refrigerator to match. Sigh.

  11. I'll be right over to help you build some beautiful open shelving to put over the fridge!
(I'm so sorry--yes, they should've warned you it was a discontinued collection!)
