Something Done

Socks are my stress knitting go to so I made quick work of these. They went right in the gift box.

The way things are going I will also have these done by the end of the week.

All bets are off on these bad boys. The man socks were naughty AGAIN. I had to rip back the whole heel again. This time it was the gussets. Apparently I can't count when I pick up stitches either.

Yesterday's St Patrick's Day dinner was a bust but at least The Mister found a cabbage and some potatoes for a pot of colcannon. He got up at 5:30 to be at the grocery store when it opened at 6 in hopes of scoring a corned beef but alas there were none-and not much else of anything else for that matter. He came back pretty shook up. I bet he's sorry now that he only stocked up on Reese's Cups when I warned him things might get serious.

I also managed a pretty decent soda bread in spite of not having any buttermilk. Look at the rise on that thing. That vinegar and milk trick really does work.

  1. The finished socks are beautiful. Some one is going to be very lucky come gift time.

We did HAM and cabbage and of course, Irish Soda bread. We never did corned beef when I was a kid. I thought HAM was the RIGHT thing. So, I continue, even though I do love a good corned beef sandwich.

  2. I tried to get a corned beef at my rounds of the stores this morning but no one had any. The stores were empty. I think I may try online ordering next time. We'll see how it goes and what happens in the next couple of weeks.
I really, really like the colors of your finished socks. So pretty and my Mom's favorite color of orangy peach.
I wonder if the man socks are giving you trouble because of the dark yarn. I had to just knit on Dennis' sweater when it was daylight because the yarn was so dark.
Wishing you a less stress-filled day tomorrow Debra.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  3. The socks (finished and in progress) look great as does your soda bread.

  4. All of the socks are so pretty! If knitting socks is a stress relief, your gift box will be overflowing. Stress knitting would be so much better than stress eating.

  5. All of your socks are really wonderful but those man socks are just asking to walk over and sit themselves on the naughty step!
I usually do not cook corned beef, etc., but this year I was actually prepared.... only to discover that I had purchased the (probably) only corned beef that advertised that it included a spice packet but... no spice packet. And, of course, I didn't have the right spices, Oh well, hoping for my spices to come in my grocery pick-up order and we'll celebrate late!

  6. Nice finish! I may have to move my socks into regular rotation since there won't be much traveling going on for a while

  8. Looks like you had a great meal despite the corned beef. I normally make a big production out of St. Pat's dinner but I didn't even try this year. Apparently I'm focusing on my Scottish heritage and not my Irish blood.
I don't know what it is about those finished socks but I absolutely Love them! Just beautiful!
