9 Months Old

When I was cleaning out my soap corner I remembered that I had this soap curing on top of a shelf almost out of sight. It has to sit there a year and I didn't want to be tempted.

I was tempted however. It's been 9 months and I think it's time to give this Aleppo soap a try.

This is the one that looks like mud and smells like compost.

As awful as that sounds it's one of my favorites. At $35 a bottle, the oil you make it with is a real luxury and I used two bottles for this batch. The long cure is to harden it up. It's made from all soft oils-only olive and laurel berry, so it takes its sweet time. It has no added coloring or fragrance. It's as all natural as you can get.

It's been a long time since I've been able to test out a new soap. This is so exciting.

*And thank you Kathy B for reminding me I can change the font size. My eyesight is terrible these days and not only is this easier to read, it's easier to write.

  1. New soap! I can imagine how excited you are. I probably should try to figure out how to make my font bigger too!

  2. The soap sounds interesting - olive oil and laurel berry - yum! But...washing with something that smells like compost? I'm not sure about that - LOL

  6. Okay! So how was it???? We must know!!!! LOL

Hope it was everything you hoped for.

When we were driving around today I saw a company that sells soap making supplies not too far from us. They do candle supplies too. Maybe I should stop in some day.

  7. Since I'm reading this more than a week later... How'd the soap work? I'm sure it's wonderfully moisturizing but I'm not too sure about smelling like compost after a bath. :)
I have to make my font bigger just to proofread my blog posts. Getting old is not for sissies!
