Running on Empty

Just when I was getting into the soap making groove I ran out of an essential ingredient. There are some things you can substitute and somethings you can't so everything came to a crashing halt yesterday. I did get the barely there scented Goat's Milk and Honey soap finished. It looks promising.

I also managed to squeak out a Coconut Cream loaf. This one is made with coconut milk and mango butter. It doesn't exactly smell like coconut but it does smell good.

I needed to do a better inventory before I ordered my last shipment of supplies. You'd think with all this stuff I would have everything I need but no. In my last order I forgot my palm flakes. With all my soft butters and oils you really need hard palm flakes to give you a bar that lathers and lasts. I placed an order for some but who knows if anything will ever get here again. Things are bleak.

I also have to take extra care with all my protective gear. I won't be getting anymore of this anytime soon that's for sure.

Ditto for my face shield. Mine is broken and cracked. I was going to order a new shield ages ago but never did. That'll teach me. I'm treating it like it's made of gold at the moment and feeling guilty. I am sure there are first responders out there who would be grateful for even a broken one.

I may not be making soap right now but I am still wrapping the spring batch. If and when I get that order there's going to be a lot more soap that needs a new home for all those hands that need washing. I don't think we'll ever look at soap or hand washing the same way again.

  1. I think you are right about that. I never thought about washing my hands after grocery shopping, or after touching a library book.

But, maybe it's a good thing. Maybe those folks that hardly EVER wash, will wash. I kind of shudder when I think about opening a public bathroom door.

  2. Your soaps look great Debbie. I think that we've all changed on how we think. I've always wiped down the grocery carts with sanitizer wipes and people looked at me like I was crazy. Maybe not anymore. I don't plan to go anywhere very soon. My home is nice and cozy. If Dennis could stay here too I would be much, much happier.

  6. The soaps are wonderful. People would stare at me at the sink at the barn. Once a nurse, always a nurse. I scrubbed and scrubbed as if surgery awaited me, not a walk to my car!! Zach assures me he is washing his hands often!
