Just Peachy

My soap supply order is finally here!

I don't know how these small online stores are keeping up but I am so grateful and I am happy to keep supporting them the best I can during this mess. Of course everything got a good washing before it came into the house.  It's all packaged in heavy duty plastic so it was not a problem.

I even got two new fragrances.  Lavender is an old favorite. I mix a bit of this with real lavender essential oil. It helps keep the scent from fading during the cure and is much better in bath bombs than the real thing. I'm also going to try a new to me peach fragrance. My mom loved peach. Now that I am almost out of gin and I can't get any tonic to save my life, I've been sipping on a bottle of her favorite peach schnapps from time to time.

I scored just a few fancy oils and some shampoo for Pup. White dogs always have sensitive skin and this is a very mild shampoo. I don't doctor it at all. I just use it right out of the bottle unscented.

My biggest squee was over this tiny bottle of very expensive laurel berry oil. It is very hard to come by and is the key ingredient in the recipe for Aleppo soap which is an ancient Castile formula made in Aleppo, Syria. I can't afford to make much of it but I did want to give it a try.

After its soapy wash it all got tucked away in quarantine for a week or so. I'm sure it's all fine to use but I'm not taking any chances. These days I'm quite the nervous Nellie about most everything.

Then there is this. My monthly shipment of the olive oil I use for soap that I get from Amazon did not show up in my subscription box so I am afraid I am going to have to use the bottle I had in the soap room in the kitchen for the duration. I made this Portuguese Olive Oil Cake yesterday and it was AMAZING. So much better than my cupcakes. Who knew you could make a cake with olive oil? I poured a glaze of powdered sugar, orange juice and triple sec over it and even The Mister said it was yummo and he's a very hard sell on cake.

  2. Your knitting yesterday totally cheered me up! Such lovely colors and patterns! I know you're happy to be thinking about soap again but am sorry that your olive oil didn't arrive. Many of my usual items have been "delayed" so making do it what has to happen.

  8. Your soaps sound amazing! Peach is one of my favorites, too. I fear that I'll miss my annual peach picking trip this August due to the current situation.

  11. Just the mention of peach schnapps brings back memories, mostly of long ago days and horrible hangovers but... :) I've never heard of olive oil cake. I'm going to have to look that one up.
