That Day

Yes, I know it's September 11th and I should be posting something serious and somber but I'm sitting here with a mellow Golden and I've had three days of quiet stitching time all to myself and I don't feel serious or somber at this particular moment which, I may add, is still officially September 10th as I write this.

What I want to talk about, respectfully speaking, is dishcloths and how I picked up some new to me cheapo dish cotton and some cheapo needles at AC Moore's yesterday and how much I am really liking using both. The cotton is soft and much easier on the hands than the regular stuff, which I still love for its usefulness. I see it's got some acrylic in it so the verdict is still out on how well it'll do its job once it gets wet.

I'd also like to share my new beaded ornament stitching project that I brought along for the doggiecation. That's Arctic Santa in his spiffy Icelandic sweater with his trusty sheep. I think they are both adorable.

As for 9/11, I thought a long time about trying to say something meaningful or inspirational but I couldn't come up with anything. We really need to invent a whole new language that deals with it and all the senseless acts that have followed. The words and ideas that I know just don't work anymore.

  2. Always a nice surprise to find a good, inexpensive new dishcloth yarn. Hope it works out.
As for 9/11....I think we have become numb from all the senseless murders since then.
    I will never forget.

  3. I've been trying to find a better dish cloth yarn too. Let us know how that one works out after using. Inquiring minds want to know. :-)

  5. I don't know how to talk about 9/11, either. Terrorism has really changed the world, and not in a good way.
    Love your ornament!

  6. I like your new dishcloth yarn and the cross stitch is just plain cute! My mother-in-laws birthday is today and she detests the dpfact that it will always be associated with such a horrendous act of evil. There are no words.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  7. While I agree it's good to reflect and remember, I see nothing wrong with using your day to do the things you love. If anything, 9/11 reminds us that life can be cruelly short, and we should count our blessings... even if those blessings are stitches on a needle!

  8. would love a softer cotton yarn to work with. Good find. THanks for sharing. LOVE your new Santa. 9/11 .....what to say? I'll always remember. We all will. Fireman and I hold dear all who perished not just the working.

  9. I am with Wanderingcatstudio on her 9/11 feelings. Also, I don't think one should feel obligated to have to speak on it if we are not in a place that is expecting it from us.
That being said, I am really glad you saved the paper. That photo had more of a remembrance for me than all the BS the news continues to try to sensationalize.

I'm hoarding dishcloth yarn. I had daydreams born this summer that probably won't come to fruition until NEXT summer.
