A Rough Ride

My first few days of the Tour have not been exactly fun. I've been working with fiber but it's not the kind I thought I would be working with every morning.

It's Pup. She won't leave me alone. The minute she hears the wheels going she wants to be in my lap.

Morning used to be our walk and play time so she's not happy about me sitting down on the job. I put her in my lap but the motion makes her sick. She actually threw up on the morning of the first stage. I was not happy but just look at that face.

I have better luck with the spindles because I can work standing up. She doesn't mind me standing up. That's cotton right there. Yay me. It took a while to get the hang of it and it's not anything much to brag about but it's staying together and that's the battle right there.

I tried a drop spindle and it worked but it was slow going. My little Spindolyn does a great job. I think I am going to like this.

I also dug out this really, really old project. I've been collecting Cormo singles for at least three Tours now. I would say that this might be the year for plying but I know better.

Same for the singles on the Russian spindle. I only work on these during the Tour so of course I never get anywhere. It's become a tradition along with the Cormo so I really don't care. It made me happy to dig it all out Saturday morning because it felt right. You just can't argue with tradition-even when it doesn't make any sense.

  2. Well at least you had a backup plan when you couldn't use your wheel - and those all look lovely!

  3. Wow, I laughed at the first pic and thought that it didn't look like fiber-it looked like dog! My cats try to lay on my lap when I spin, too, but now that I use the espinner, they don't get seasick but I can't get comfortable! I loved seeing all your projects on the spindles-very pretty and someday they will be yarn-until then, enjoy the traditions!

  5. That you can spin any way at all is amazing. To me it's like rubbing your stomach and patting your head! You are a wonderful crafter!

  6. How could you not stop everything for that face?
    Good luck with the spinning,

  8. Haha! I was just like Wandering Cat! But I love all the colorful spinning photos. Pup is adorable and I can't help but feel sympathetic towards the disrupted morning schedule.

I was in Europe and watching the Tour coverage and it always makes me think of you! I was thinking I wonder what and how much she's up to now! A LOT!!

  9. Your spindles are gorgeous and that little pup face is darling though I'm sure distracting. My little hooligans do the same thing when I'm spinning. The motion of the wheel can actually trigger a seizure in Levi so I have to be real careful around him. Sounds like spinning the cotton was a little tricky....I've always wanted to try that though.
