Ribbit, Ribbit...

I bought some of Knit Picks new Heatherly yarn in hopes of starting a little sweater for a soon to be Grand. It's a big fluffy yarn and I was surprised to find it came in skeins. I shouldn't have been surprised because it clearly shows it in the photos but nonetheless it was a surprise.

I do a lot of sock yarn winding but I couldn't recall a time I had to wind yarn this thick or fluffy. It wasn't fun. In fact it was frustrating as heck.

After struggling through the winding I cast on without too much incident but decided I hated the pattern I had bought. What was I thinking? I hate assembling knit pieces and I had bought a pattern that had lots of finishing. After finding a better pattern-a seamless one, off to the frog pond it went.

During said frogging I broke my one and only 16 inch circular interchangeable cable. I have this very old Knit Picks set and I decided right then and there I hate the fiddlyness of it and went and bought several sizes of 16" fixed circulars instead-which was a small fortune btw. Now I have to wait for them to arrive before I can cast on again but since I am not going anywhere anyway it doesn't really matter. I've got plenty of other things to keep me busy.

  1. Pretty yarn! I'll be looking forward to seeing the finished sweater. I've never had luck with any interchangeable cable needles I've tried - the joins are always fiddly and catch on everything. I love my fixed circulars.

  2. I might be kicked out of the knitting club but I must say personally I dislike interchangeable needle sets. I have tried them but found they were often coming unscrewed (wait, maybe that was the user LOL). I love ChiaoGoo circulars and I believe I might actually look for patterns that use new sizes I don't own just to get a new pair. A secret just between us and the internet.

  3. Love the colour of the yarn! It's going to make a great sweater when you can finally cast on!

  4. Well, maybe off to a slow start but at least you will be ready to get knitting when the needles come!

  5. Sorry if this is a double post but it didn't give me the usual response-so I just think boo! for being thwarted right now but you will be ready to hit the kntiting trail as soon as the new needles come in!

  6. I have a set of the Knit Picks interchangeable needles that I use all the time. A couple of cables have come out of the metal coupler, but a bit of gorilla glue worked like a charm.

  7. That is such pretty yarn. I've had the Knit Picks interchangeables just like yours for years and I just love them. Never had much of a problem with snagging. I also have a set of Hiya Hiya interchangeables and use them interchangeably! Ha!

  8. What pattern did you finally chose? I, too, am waiting for a new circular needle while my project is in time out.

  9. Broken needles are never fun. I'm sorry you had trouble with Heatherly. I wound mine with no problems and it knit up quickly.
