A Fact Finding Mission

Decisions, decisions....the easy part of a remodel is ripping everything out. The hard part is deciding on what you want to put back in. We took a trip to the floor store to see what was what and I think we have it figured out.

I am still lobbying hard for Ikea cabinets but The Mister isn't so sure. He wanted to check out Lowes since that is where we got the ones we have. Pup had a ball. Dogs are allowed in Lowes.

Since we were in the area we decided to stop in at Micheal's where they were having a great yarn sale. The shelves were pretty much picked through but I did get some stripey yarn for two more Pup sweaters.

I was dismayed to see how few aisles of yarn they had and even more dismayed to see the embroidery section was not only hard to find but didn't even have a full row anymore. Crafts are taking a back seat to holiday decor theses days. I guess people want their stuff already done. That makes me sad.

Even worse, AC Moore's, my favorite craft store in the area was GONE. I'm still in shock.

I did get some knitting done on the way up and back. Both socks are at the heel.

Back at home, I finished Soldotna. Almost.  All I have left is the bottom ribbing-if I follow the pattern but....look how much yarn I have leftover. Since it's already in the world's ugliest knit category I think I'm going to add more color work at the bottom to add length. What do I have to lose?

I also have to thank Beth for sending me this book. Since I have three bins of single handspun skeins this is exactly what I needed. Thanks Beth!!

  1. Isn't it fun to walk through and get ideas for the renovation?! I like the socks! Don't you have to do the sleeves with that yarn? The pattern is bright but still very pretty!

    1. It doesn't have any sleeves. I just have to do a short ribbing and a bind off to the little cap sleeves. It's not much of a sweater! Lol..

  2. The last time I was in Joanne's, the yarn selection was very small and the embroidery floss even less. I think you are right - so many people just want to buy things that are already made, they don't want to make them.

  3. The sweater may be bright but it's lovely and cheerful.

  4. Our cross stitch aisle at JoAnn's looks like that all year round. I guess not many people do cross stitch anymore.

Pup looks adorable in her stroller.

  5. Oh I love that Soldotna. It's gorgeous. I've noticed that the yarn selections are very few too. It doesn't make sense to me because it seems like more and more people are crafting these days.
I love wandering the aisles at Home Depot and Lowes too. It's such fun to dream.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  6. I've noticed Michael's "do-it-yourself" stuff has really dwindled. They definitely seem to be focusing more on decor items.
But I wonder if part of that is because so many of us crafters are getting stuff online now.

  7. I think your sweater is absolutely beautiful! Pup is looking pretty adorable. I think it is hard for a brick and mortar store to compete with on-line stores today.
