Armchair Traveler

The Mister and I don't travel much but our kids sure do.

Here are a few pages from Middle Son and his Fiancee's trip to China over spring break. I saw him last week and he shared his little sketch journal with me.

I love the way he captures all the touristy things like queuing up to see Mao's body with anecdotes. Don't you love that guard?

They got to swim in the famous Water Cube from the Beijing Olympics.

Of course eating in foreign countries is always high on the list of memorable experiences. Some fancy....

....some not so fancy. I am not sure what he's selling but now I want a steamed dumpling.

They got to see pandas doing what they do best, up close and personal. Lots of them.

I think Son really captured the spirit of the country but the sketch I like the best is this one of the bikes. How does one begin to draw such a mass of tangles parts? I am so impressed.

  1. I absolutely love doing this Debra! He obviously inherited your gift of drawing. I found myself trying to see every detail. Thank you SO much for sharing it with us.

  2. Fantastic job on the travel journal!!!!

  3. Oooh, I love this journal - so much better than snapping photos! Your son definitely inherited your artistic eye.

  4. That is a wonderful travel journal! Thanks for sharing (I love the panda and the bicycles)

  5. LOVE this! He obviously has been blessed with your artsy gift. I feel so lazy for just clicking pictures with my phone after this!

  6. This is fabulous. What a great way to capture these memories! His drawings are great and now I want to eat dumplings too.

  7. SO fun to see these. I find anyone with sketching ability amazing!!! I am only capable of a stick figure drawing

  8. Oops I hit the wrong key and sent that out before I corrected my mistakes.
