Dribs and Drabs

Christmas doesn't happen all at once around here and I don't put it all away at once either. First the clutter goes. You know, the things that get in the way. All the glittery doo dads are the first to be packed away.

The puzzle has to come off my sewing table. I've got things to do. Taking it apart takes almost as most time as putting it together. Not really but it seems like it. It takes a while.

Every year I end up with a peppermint collection. Why do I always  think it was a good idea to get hundreds of candy canes? Seriously, I bought a box of 110 candy canes. Why????

The tree stays up for a few more days but I don't turn the lights on anymore.  It actually looks better unlit. I am going to have to work on the lighting next year. It was pretty bad.

The table runner and the new mini quilt are staying on the buffet until New Year's because I didn't want to relocate all that booze quite yet. We added a lot of bottles to the collection over the past few weeks and now I am going to have to do something about that mess.

Pup's not ready to give up her Christmas toys yet. Poor crinkly Santa took a beating this afternoon.

After cleaning up all the Christmas clutter what did I do?  Watched an episode of The Crown 2 and played with some paper piecing.

I need a January mini quilt and I've got a stash full of blue winter themed material. Seems like a plan but can I get it done before the first? I doubt it but I'll give it a go.

  1. Here Christmas tree is more associated with New Year. So we will enjoy our tree for another week.
I am watching Crown too! Just started Season 1.

  2. Well I felt rather like putting it all away once the kids flew out yesterday. But now I'm happy stuff is still up. I'll probably put it away around New years. I would take all those candy canes to the horses at our barn . My teeth are in no shape to handle that chew! Merry merry my pal

  3. I appreciate your 'putting away' in stages! The new snowflake quilt is genius; I like the blue decorations for January, too.

  4. You make after holiday clean seem like fun. I put my candy canes in the blender; grind them down and use it instead of suger in chocolate cake or brownies.

  5. How clever to use hexies for snowflakes. I love that!

  6. I'll be watching The Crown 2 as well and am really looking forward to it! My tree will stay up til after New Year's Day and then I'll pack away the ornaments in tissue paper. Today I'm having lunch with my two (grown) sons and my 18-year-old grandaughter. Hoping for a nice quiet knit later!

  7. I still like to put the lights on the tree until after the new year. My husband would get rid of everything now if we had room in the recycling and trash, ha!

You are the 4th person to tell me about the crown. 4th person whose taste I trust. I will have to get on that, but I seem to be addicted to Law & Order reruns ... still.

  8. Since we put our tree up the day after Thanksgiving I was ready to get it down. I took the decorations off of it yesterday to take my mind off of the grandchildren leaving. Last night Dennis carried everything to storage for me. The only think I leave out is my snowmen. They stay out until February or so to cheer up the house. If I HAVE to have snow, I would rather look at in in my stuffed snowmen than outside the window!
Can't wait to see your choices for the mini quilt.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  10. DH is still working on the train set up! Our Christmas stuff stays up until Epiphany usually, but train hangs around longer. Happy New Year, Deb!

  11. Nothing has been put away here. I plan to do that all on Saturday and Sunday. It seems like everything needs a serious cleaning after those decorations are stored away. I am not looking forward to the work but will be thrilled to have my house back again.
