We Are But a Moment's Sunlight

Today I am going to be doing funeral things for Dad's little lady friend. I am so thankful I got one last visit, one last hug and one last "I love you" a few days ago.

Sometimes it was hard seeing her in the place where my mother should have been at family gatherings but I would have never made it through those last dark years without her faith and good humor. She saw things in the old man that I didn't and it helped center me on the worst days. Suddenly I feel like an orphan again out there in the big, cold world once again losing someone that loved me and it hurts. It really, really does,

  5. My deepest condolences. It is hard to lose the people who have helped us through the hard times, who knew us, who cared about. And this is going to happen to us more and more.

  9. Oh I'm happy that Daddio had a lady friend and you became friends. I'm' sorry that you are grieving again. I bet she brought him solace after your mom died. Grief is so intense. Big hugs to you. You are wise to acknowledge that this is an orphan feeling. Give yourself a lil hug from me

  10. I'm very sorry for your loss. My grandfather had a lady friend for a few years between the death of his second wife (my grandma was his first, and is still living) and his death. I made sure to thank her for making his last years happy ones. It takes a special person to step into those shoes. Sounds like your Dad's lady was one of the good ones.
