Wednesday WIPs

I have been knitting and stitching a bit this week but mostly this has been going on. This is Oatmeal, Milk and Honey fresh out of the mold and on the chopping block.

Of course there was drama with this batch too but nothing too terrible. I just went overboard with the water a bit because I went overboard with the milk powders and honey. It was a bit soft when I took it out of the mold but it seems to have firmed up nicely.

I made another big batch with a pine scent. It's The Mister's favorite.  Some of you asked me in the comments yesterday what my favorite scents are and I admit I am a foodie when it comes to scents. If it's something I'd like to eat, I like it in a soap. Fruit scents are the ones I like the most. I am not a fan of florals or designer fragrances. I have actually mostly been using up my last batch of unscented goat's milk bars since the pandemic started and I am going to make another big batch of them again before I put all the soap mess away. Sometimes soap that just smells like soap is a good thing.

It's taken a bit of Mcgyvering to fit these big batches in my small working space as they go through their processes but I figured out a way to incubate them using a mini storage rack in an old cooler. I can now pile two loaves on top of each other without squishing the top of the one on the bottom.

You would think that being home all this time I would have been making piles of soap but it's been really hard to get supplies. In the order I got last week from my soap supply company I couldn't get any cocoa butter so I had to resort to Amazon for this brand which will go in the next batch. This should be interesting. I hate subbing stuff because it's always an adventure when I do. I remember all too clearly the coconut milk subbing disaster of last winter and sadly-I still can't get soap grade coconut milk.

  1. Oh, you do excellent work with the whole soap thing! I love the look of these bars. And clever you with the stacking!

  2. That is some gorgeous soap. It's so pretty with the swirls.
I can't believe how hard it is to get different things. Now they can't build cars because some part is impossible to get. It's the same with campers. Apparently insulation and foam are unavailable. And I'm surprised how many empty shelves are still at the grocery store. I wonder if it will ever be the same as before Covid?
    Blessings,

  3. Sounds like soap making supplies are in the same boat as cross stitch supplies. Sometimes you have to take what you can get OR do without for now.

Hopefully, things will get better in the supply chain sooner rather than later.

  7. With the exception of a very few florals (Lily of the Valley comes to mind) I'm a foodie when it comes to scents too. I love fruit scents - citrus, berries, and of course, a good warm vanilla!
Your bars are lovely as always!
