A Window of Opportunity

They were calling for rain but it didn't happen until late afternoon. We even had a sliver of sun for a few minutes in the morning so we grabbed the chain saws and got to work. That's not a tree The Mister is working on. That's only a limb that fell a few months ago on top of the trees we were trying to clear.

It was damp and chilly so Pup got bundled.

It was a muddy mess out there. I was very thankful for my Croc boots. I love them. I just throw them in the tub and they are as good as new.

My main job was to make sure The Mister didn't cut off an appendage or two. I pretty much just stand there and watch and hand him things when he needs them. It's hair raising business. The Mister is quite the daredevil. Here he is with a chainsaw in his hand while perched on a pile of logs. He's an accident waiting to happen but he won't listen to my protests.

It took some heart stopping wrangling but he got that big limb on the ground and in pieces.

Now we have a mess where that giant limb used to be. Splitting and stacking will happen as soon as the weather improves. It's already raining again.

The Mister's ritual is a beer and a cigar up on the deck to celebrate surviving the day. I don't know how he does it but I'm glad he does. I spent the day imagining the mess I would have had to clean up if he didn't.

  1. I can't even imagine. Those are some huge trees. I think I would just hire someone to come in and cut them up for me and be done with it. :-) I would have heart failure with my husband climbing around with a chain saw...the roof was enough for me yesterday.
Maybe you can craft tomorrow if it's still raining. They've removed the snow from our forecast and it's supposed to be in the 40's for the next week or so. Unheard of up here for February. It's crazy!
    Blessings,

  2. Yup, that's my job when my husband is cutting up wood or any other project--stand and watch and hand him tools as needed! You did well and so did he if he finished unharmed!

  4. Wow! I don't think I truly realized how huge the "limbs" (!!!) were that you all were dealing with! Thankful that all is going well for the work that you've taken on!
Pup!!! Always makes me smile and feel happy!

  8. Wow! The photos with your husband in them really shows the size of the trees. Much larger than I imagined though you have constantly said they were large. Definitely not a good idea to be out alone using a chain saw regardless of how skilled you may be. Glad you are there to stand, watch, hand, etc. Maybe you will get a day of crafting soon.

  10. Chainsaws terrify me! I hate it when my husband gets his out. Love your husband's celebration ritual though. Gosh, that tree was massive!
