What a Weekend

Saturday night the wind was so fierce we had to sleep in the basement. It was a miserable night with the dogs barking at every thud and the nervous cats hissing and spitting at each other. Early Sunday morning we lost power. In spite of it all, I had to pack up the car and head back to the rink with the production props and costumes once again slipping and sliding all over the roads. It was another white knuckle drive. At the rink I had to set all the scenery up in the brutal cold but I'm not complaining. I had a great time.

This is always a fun competition. I get to see skating friends I haven't seen all year.

Our locker room was awash with purple.

We have four costume changes so each skater keeps her things in a basket that she stores behind the scenery. Keeping track of costumes and props for 22 skaters is a full time job.

Tensions were high as we waited our turn to skate.

Here Comes the Rain Again by the Eurythmics is our first number. We throw in a little Singing in the Rain...

...then segue into Purple Rain. Not one single tutu fell off. Thank you Jesus.

All of the costume changes happen behind the scenery that looked so huge set up in my living room. No one missed a beat. These kids are awesome.

Our big finish is Umbrella by Rihanna. My big part was to get the scenery on and off the ice. There are strict rules about how that is done so, while not a glamorous job it is important. On Saturday night we saw a spectacular team get disqualified for doing it wrong.

For all my hard work and sleepless nights worrying over all the little details we were rewarded with......FIRST PLACE in our division.  The best part? We get to do it all again in two weeks. Competition season is off to a good start!
