August's Miss Wisdom is coming along slowly. She was a bear to do as her fleece was made up of a rather complicated pattern-at least for me. It doesn't take much to confuse me these days. Counting seems to be a skill that's slowly fading away.
My adventure with crewel has been hit or miss. It's been fun learning the new stitches but working with that dried out vintage yarn has not been fun. It's splitty which makes all the stitches look pretty wonky. I doubt at this stage I could make nice regular stitches anyway so I won't complain too much. I'll just carry on with this practice piece that's made up of mostly chain stitches at this point.
One of you nice readers sent me the link to this project kit that just arrived. It's the knitting mouse I've been looking for. Mercifully you only have to stitch in her apron and her shawl. The rest is printed on. The yarn looks much nicer than the yarn in the leaf kit so I'm looking forward to tackling this as soon as I get more practice on those blankety blank leaves.

ReplyDeleteI think you're doing great with the leaves. I haven't done crewel work since my 20's. It doesn't even call to me anymore. Now cross-stitch, that's another story. I need more walls so I stopped stitching.

I have trouble counting too and have never overly enjoyed 'fiddly' cross stitch designs. I much prefer big blocks of color. Your Wisdom looks great though and the knitting mouse is adorable!

ReplyDeleteI'm working on a counted cross stitch piece for a Christmas present - looking at your little sheep I can say I understand how that wool could be difficult. I use a neck lamp to work now because I can never seem to get enough light these days to work. The little Missy Mousie is too cute!
