Wooden Ducks

I picked up this Polwarth at the MDSW last year. I really liked the blue and orange together.

Now that it's spun it looks so different.

It's not what I expected but I don't hate it.

It's a bit on the energetic side. I was plying it to GOT and goodness, that show is intense. I'm lucky that's all that happened. It could have been so much worse.

Hopefully a soak and a good beating will tame it. It's going to be a cowl. I've even bought the pattern. After I cleaned out the stash closet I swore nothing else was going in the any of the THREE handspun bins. It's use it or lose it.

Next up on the Ladybug is this superwash BFL.

I'm not wild about BFL but I seem to have an awful lot of it in my stash.  Since I'll be spinning this into the spring I thought these Mardi Gras colors would be just the thing for those end of winter blues. As much as I like snow I am so ready for warm and sunny.

  1. Gosh, that did spin up differently didn’t it? I like it though. And your new fiber does resemble Mardi Gras colors. It’s perfect!
And about the cart from Michael’s. You can also get a bit bigger version, (approx. 1 inch larger all around), at IKEA. But be warned. Many people online say if you buy one of them you won’t stop. I’ve read about some women having 10 to 12 of these carts! The IKEA carts are named Raskogs. There is even a Facebook group called “Pimp your Raskog!” I think I’ll be stopping at one. :-)

  2. I am waiting for spring too. Those lovely colours can help.

  3. The yarn is much lighter than the braid-interesting. Makes you wonder what the next braid will do! Happy spinning!

  5. Great colours to invoke spring! It's currently another blizzard here... sigh.

  7. It will be fun to see how the Polwarth's colors show themselves when knit.

  8. I love the colors that resulted when the yarn was spun. Of course, I love blue and yellow and the orange just seemed to disappear. Will be interesting to see how the next one turns out. You are one talented gal!

  9. I, too, was wondering where the orange went! It's a pretty yarn none the less. What pattern are you using with it? You are a talented spinner!

  10. Not being a spinner (yet!) I have no idea what to expect out of a batch of fiber. I'm always amazed at how different the fiber is from the yarn. Despite the orange disappearing, your yarn is lovely! Can't wait to see how that green turns out.

  11. It is amazing how much that changed after being spun. I find that sometimes just with a hank of yarn you buy at the store, it is so beautiful but changes so much when it is knit up, sometimes for the better, sometimes not so much.
