ISO: Sparkles

I've got some new paints in the watercolor stash.

I wanted to add a little sparkle to my silly flower doodles and I saw this really cheap set on one of my stamping sites.

They weren't terrible but I wanted even more sparkle. Then I remembered I had this set of pricey mica paints from Ranger that I had never really used.

That got me thinking about mica. I have mica. I have tons of mica. It's what I use to color the soap. It's cosmetic grade so it should be safe enough to paint with, right?

I had a good ole time making a big mess swatching it all out but I gave myself a nasty cough and a sore throat. It's safe but it gets airborne easily. I think I inhaled too much. I won't do that again.

It was kind of worth it though. Look at the comparison between the cheapo watercolor set and the soap micas. The soap mica colors are gorgeous. Sadly, they are not sticking very well to the paper. I need a fixative and since it's not the 1980's anymore, I don't have any hairspray.
And yes, I had big hair back in the day. Really big, permed hair. I searched everywhere for a photo of me to end this post with but it seems like I had enough sense back then to stay away from a camera. Too bad.

  1. Oh I LOVE the pebbled stone look you've created! Just LOVE it. I had many a bad perm back in the day. WHAT was I thinking?

  2. It's probably good there are no 'big hair' photos! lol The mica in the paints is a neat idea-have fun with your experimenting-it is so pretty!

  3. Oooh - I love sparkles!
Did you have sparkle hair spray in the 80s too?

  4. I did not expect hairspray as a fixative but, of course, it would probably work! My hair was too fine for "big hair" so I always stuck to the 60's straight look. I stayed away from cameras as well!

  5. Pretty colors. I would just hate fooling with all that stuff though - lol

  6. Very cool! I love the look that you came up with. I think we’ve all had a lot of bad perms back in the day. Be careful and don’t do anything to make yourself sick. Blessings, Betsy
