Dishcloth Fail-Sort Of...

This is not really a fail but it wasn't done in time for the dishcloth swap. It probably won't be done in time for Christmas gifting either. I had good intentions but this project kicked my behind in several different ways.

In the sea of free patterns floating about, I bought this pattern as soon as I saw it. It is Spa Cloth by Stephannie Tallent.

I should have known this was going to be humdinger. When I saw the chart my eyeballs almost fell out.

I had to take lots of notes to have it all make sense to my old brain.

I use the chart and the written instructions to always make sure I know where I am.

Having said all that, it is a very well written pattern and the results are beautiful-just not in this yarn. Regular craft store cotton is too splitty and too stiff to do all the cabling and lace sections.

I am soldiering on with the original but I've got reserves on hand that just arrived in the mail. Dishie is a softer cotton that I hope will be the answer to making good use of this gorgeous pattern.  As crazy as it seems I am liking the challenge.

  2. I can't imagine trying to cable with Lily's Sugar 'n Cream. WOW! Way too stiff.

I'll have to give Dishie a try one of these days. Looks like it comes in very pretty colors.

  3. I was wondering how Knit Picks dish cloth cotton was. I have been looking for a softer cotton for my cloths. Now I'm going to check it out for sure.

  4. You know, I saw that pattern and was tempted as well. Now I'm not so sure - charts seem to taunt me, regardless of the notes I keep!

But you are right - it is a pretty pattern. I cannot imagine trying it with regular dishcloth cotton, though!

  5. That is a lot of work for a dishcloth! But what a good way to figure out a complex pattern. I'm sure it will be better in the new yarn!

  6. That looks like such a pretty pattern, but not sure my brain could wrap around it. I have been using sugar & cream and man is it stiff and hard to move off the needles. I have some small skeins of cotton (don't think it's dishie) from KintPicks that I want to try. Let me know how the dishie works out!

  7. I love it! It is knitting up great, even with the heavier yarn. It will be even better the second time around with the Dishie yarn! (which I love, too!)

  8. I ended up designing something new for my dishcloths, but I can't share yet because I'm going to submit them to Knitty.

That one is very pretty and will look lovely with your soaps.

  9. Dishie from Knit Picks is the only way to go. I love it. However I have an entire tub of regular cotton that I'm going to make myself use before I buy anymore Dishie. That pattern is beautiful and I'm impressed that you kept going, even with yarn you don't love.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  11. I like seeing all your work with their post it notes. Makes me feel good. I do very similar things when working on patterns with long rows of different patterns. I like the colors you've chosen, but I'm sorry that the cabling w/the cotton isn't working out as nicely as you'd like.
