Yesterday was delivery day. I have to say I've learned a lot about food preservation through all this and some of the practices I intend to keep. Produce lasts so much longer when I take the time to clean and prepare everything before bagging it up and putting it in the fridge. I used to just toss'em in the drawer the way they came right from the store and always ended up throwing half of what I had away from spoilage.
We did okay with produce again but we couldn't get any lunch meat or cooking spray this time around. I did get toilet paper. I have quite the collection of it now and I'm not ashamed. Having only 6 rolls to get us through the 6 weeks of lockdown was no fun. I don't ever want to do that again.
I did get some hominy for The Mister. I have put it on every order since the lockdown began and never could get it. We got two different kinds which is good. The Mister loves this stuff. Not sure why.
After all that early morning excitement the only thing I was good for was finishing my latest little puzzle. All that grocery excitement gave me a terrific headache. The flower puzzle was not only hard, it also had some drama at the finish. I was missing a piece. I was just about to throw a temper tantrum when I found it on the floor. Crisis averted.
Up next is this one that just came in the mail last week. My little puzzles have been the best part of this whole pandemic experience if there is a such thing as a best part. I am completely addicted.
I have become addicted to word searches. I do them mindlessly instead of knitting. I don't know why.
ReplyDeleteOur entire family loves hominy. It was a treat when I was a child and all of our kids love it too. I'm glad you were able to get some for The Mister.
Blessings,
Betsy
Your fresh produce looks great. Geeze, around here peppers have become so expensive - at one store they were $3 each!!!
ReplyDeleteI like the way you are prepping the fresh veggies-I should do that. Ah, a good puzzle would do nicely.
ReplyDeleteMy new addiction is crosswords - I've always done them but now they are my go-to when I get nervous/stressed - somehow concentrating on something very contained really helps.
ReplyDeletePrepping the veggies is a great idea. Hmm, I’ll pass on the hominy - more for the Mister. The last few months I’ve become more addicted to audio books.
ReplyDeleteThose little puzzles are cute!
ReplyDeleteMy dad loved hominy but I've never tried it, or at least not that I remember. What do you even do with it?
ReplyDeleteI've been doing a few puzzles lately too, but only a few. I can't bring myself to pay much for them but thankfully the stores are starting to stock them again.
I THINK YOU HAVE FOUND A GIFT IN A TROUBLE TIME. GOOD FOR YOU!!!!Zach would love those skulls.!!!
ReplyDeleteHope that headache was kicked to the road!
Cute puzzles! I have found that doing all the veggies and fruits makes a difference in how long they store in the fridge. I take grapes from the stems and cherries from their stems too...they last much longer. My personal shopper at the grocery store must need glasses I ordered 2 pounds of cherries and got 5...might have to make some cherry jam:)
ReplyDeleteI completely understand the toilet paper dilemma. I tend to have issues having enough toilet paper on a regular day, but have it missing from the shelves and I am a basket case. With hurricane season in full swing there is a desperate need by me of course to have as much toilet paper on hand as possible. I am a nutter it seems. Stay safe.
