Warm and Cozy

Pup has a couple of store bought sweaters that we put on her when we take her out in the cold. We keep her hair short so she really needs something warm and cozy.

The problem is that if I don't remember to put them in the closet the cats get them and make a nest out of them. I wake up to her sweaters covered in cat hair and needing a wash all the time so they are wet when I need them.

While we were out with her a PetSmart yesterday we looked for a new sweater or dog coat with no luck. We went to several other places and there was nothing but teeny tiny sweaters or huge ones.
I found this yarn at Walmart and decided to go home and knit her one. How hard could that be? I knit her plenty when she was just a wee pup.

It's actually hard. Big needles and big yarn are hard on the hands. My thumbs in particular were killing me last night after only getting this far.

It is nice to have a reason to use my collection of straight needles that I never seem to use anymore but honestly, I think I'm going to just go look online for doggie clothes. This isn't much fun.

  1. I bought a booklet of doggie sweater patterns several years ago and knit Chloe a sweater. She loves it. I also knit one for Sophie, a little toy poodle that we camp next to in the summer. She doesn’t like it so much! Ha! I’ve never used the chunky yarn though because I was afraid it would hurt my hands. Good luck shopping.

  2. You know what i'd say..if it aint fun..it aint getting done. !
Our resale shop has dog sweaters. I have one for Fezzik for when he gets too rambunctious and it is like his thunder shirt. I know I've shown photos of him in it on my blog. Its funny....but not to him

  4. Masondixonknitting.com just had a story on how to design a dog sweater. Check out the post from 1/16/19, maybe it will be helpful. Good luck!

  5. My Mom once knit a plaid sweater for a Westie named Hamish. I've considered making sweaters for the cats, but I don't think they'd appreciate it.

  7. How about doing it on a circular? I rarely use my straight needles anymore...

  8. I am still a straight needle fan, I use them whenever I can. Hope Pup is cozy in that sweater.

  9. Maybe if you use the same idea just some worsted weight yarn from the stash instead!
