All in Knots
I bought this Little Prince themed fabric ages ago with the intention of making a simple project bag out of it and it's been sitting here staring at me ever since.
For some reason I got the bug yesterday to finally do something with it but it didn't go so well. I was trying to make a lined Japanese Knot Bag and used a tutorial I found online. Nope. I gave it my best shot but none of it made sense. Nothing was where it should be. Rip, rip, rip.
Tutorial number two had the bag construction right but had the lining wrong. Half of it was on the outside. I didn't realize that it was done on purpose until it was too late. Rip. Rip. Rip.
Tutorial number three finally made sense and had everything where I wanted it.
See. The lining is on the inside. Whew. It only took me six hours to get it right. The poor material is so frayed from all the ripping that it looks like it has fringe and that's after I took the pinking shears to it.
And....that bag wasn't my only big fail of the day. I tried to make blueberry scones with my new cutter and I got some kind of blueberry scone cookie hybrid. I have no idea how I did it but my poor scones went out instead of up. They were nice and crispy on the outside and tasted fine but scones they were not.
Love, love the fabric and the bag but not your trials with it. Now that it's done, you'll love it. And the scones look positively delicious.

Glad you finally got the bag you desired. Honestly after being burned like you too many times when sewing I tend to steer very far away from online tutorials for sewing. I often find them confusing and ill written. I like a tech edited pattern in knitting and sewing.
ReplyDeleteOnce you get the hang of the Japanese knot bag, they are pretty easy. Lining anything always messes me up!
ReplyDeleteLove a knot bag.
ReplyDeleteI wish I could sew! I'd make these bags all the time.
ReplyDeleteYou need to make another bag right away so you can imprint it on your brain!!!! The knot bag looks great--good job; glad you stuck with it! Pass me one of your scones--looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteThe knot bag looks good and so do your scone/cookies. I do hope that tomorrow's endeavors don't give you so much difficulty!
