With Gratitude

One of the nurses in the ER that attended to Daddio turned out to be an acquaintance of Middle Sister who is also a nurse. After a grueling night at his bedside she turned up from her morning break with flowers and Starbucks coffee for everyone.

It was the best thing I had tasted in my life. I nursed that cup of black coffee to the bitter end which was almost 16 hours later. We decided to thank her for her kindness with a card and wouldn't you know it, I already had the perfect kit.

Ta da....the three coffee sisters expressing their gratitude for a job well done. I am not sure how these nurses do it. They are indeed angels. As soon as the post office opens after the holiday I am going to pop a Starbucks gift card in it and send it off.
I also want to thank all you bloggy friends. As usual, I could count on you for sympathy and advice. It's not just about knitting you know. Yarn is nice but friendship is better.

  1. Oh what a sweet thing for her to do for you. Nurses are indeed special people. Mandy called tonight while driving home from work after a 12 1/2 hour shift. She was exhausted but still calling to check on us after our trip home from visiting her. I honestly don’t know how they do it either. On their feet constantly and making split second decisions that could have dire consequences. We owe much to the nurses that care for us and our loved ones and often we just don’t even see the person they are. We just see another uniform performing a task.
From the Mom of a nurse, thank you for your sweet card and gift. And you’re right, yarns friends are the best. We support each other through all sorts of things, good and bad.
    Blessings always my friend,
    Betsy

  5. Nurses. You know how I feel about nurses. I'm so glad she was THERE for you. It is the profession of compassion as a priest recently told me.

  6. It's such a blessing to be in the midst of good people, especially during difficult times. Letting those people know how much they've helped is like closing the circle of caring around that time. That is such a sweet card.

  7. Nurses are the unsung heroes of the hospital. I'm glad a special one was there for you when you needed her. She is going to love receiving your card and gift, but she will treasure in her heart the thought that she helped you and your sisters through a difficult time.

  8. During my many hospitalizations, it's the nurses who have always made me feel like it will all be OK. I think they are amazing people, and I love this story.

It is true that when you send good out into the world, it gets returned to you hundredfold.

  12. What a fantastic card. It IS perfect. I'm so glad you had someone kind and familiar to at least one of you during such a hard time. I know the hard is not over, but I'm grateful for the kindness you have found in the nurse as well as your friends.

  13. My neighbor is a doctor and texted me about something as my Dad was dying. She happened to be in the hospital and brought us a basket of fruit, water, juice and protein bars. She walked in a few minutes after he passed. She walked right over an unhooked all the monitors, so we could be with him with nothing flashing. I will never forget her kindness, by the way she was not his doctor. That thank you is going to mean the world to that wonderful woman.
