Oh, Carp!

Before I got this miserable cold I was happily winding a very pretty warp and loving it. I should have known it was all too good to be true.

To avoid danger,  I had even put in the lease sticks to save the cross before I pulled it off the warping board. Disaster struck anyway. It all became a tangled mess when I let the cross twist. I had forgotten about keeping the color order in pattern and just walked it over to the loom without a thought. Look at that mess. Now it's too late to do anything but....

...painfully wind it all back off and then back on again.

What's really frustrating is that the blankety blank cross, which caused all the problems in the first place, is working just fine to help me peel off all the threads one by one.

As extra insurance for my next go round, I bought this DVD set to see if I can pick up some tricks on how to work with the super skinny stuff. My Craftsy class is all about weaving with worsted and 8/2 cotton is a whole other animal.

Done In

My Hexagon blankie is done. Pup obviously likes it.

I went with a simple edging that was fast and fun.

It was finished just in time to snuggle with while I began to suffer from the mother of all summer colds. Cough. Cough. Sneeze. Sneeze-and did I mention that Daddio is back in the hospital with hip dislocation number three on the newly operated on hip? Yep. It's been that kind of week. I'm never getting off this couch. Ever.

Bye Bye

It was a sign. When I went to pull out my knitting there were stitches already off the needle. The ones off the needle seemer better off than the ones on so.....

...off they all came and I began frogging.

Two color frogging is not a piece of cake but I managed it.  It felt good. Those socks weren't speaking to me on too many levels to save them.

I also discovered that my new guitar fingers minus nails have a hard time picking up things like little needles. This is going to be an adjustment.

I need a project so I hit the giant under bed container of sock yarn. That's Pup in the end of the container, helping me pick out the right skein.

She was pretty close. I dug out this gem from the 2013 MDSW.  It's from Wild Hare and this is the Grateful Dyed colorway. It was The Mister's pick of the day.

 Even winding it was fun.

I cast them on and got a bit done on the way over with The Mister to babysit the Grandson on Saturday. Knitting and babies-you can't get better than that.

Practice Still Isn't Making Perfect

My quilt scribbling is finally finished so it's time to move on to other things.

Even though I still have a long way to go with controlling that darning foot, I decided to see if I could follow an easy pattern.

It's not as easy as you think it would be.

I ended up with some pretty terrible loops but I had an excuse.

There was a crazy dog sitting on the table trying to eat my gloves. At least she had the good sense to stay away from the moving parts of the machine.

Mrs. Clean

During the TdF I took a lot of pictures of me washing filthy fleece in my kitchen sink.  In case any friends or family noticed, I want to assure you that I get more than serious about the clean up. First, the whole area gets a bleaching.

Then a rub down with Comet and a rinse.

A wipe down with a disinfectant follows.

 Everything gets another good rinse...

...before the sink gets a bubble bath with some antibacterial dish soap. Then I usually dump the rest of the boiling water I used for washing the fleece into the sink for the last rinse.

Last but not least my own hands get a good scrub down. See? No one has to be worried about eating anything out of my kitchen. Nothing could survive the chemical warfare.

Brain Work

I had a rare quiet morning all to myself the other day so I took advantage of it to do some figuring. My new weaving kit has been calling my name but as usual there is an issue. The problem is that my loom is only 18 inches but most weaving drafts for dishcloths need at least a 20 inch loom. I have to make a lot of adjustments. It makes my head hurt.

I also have a puppy that loves to eat things so the warping board had to find a temporary home that was out of reach.

It was actually a good thing. Standing up didn't hurt my back and it was easier to unroll the yarn once I figured out this box thing.

I worked all morning and got this far. It's half the warp. I need about 350 ends.

Of course there was a false start and some yarn carnage. When will I ever learn to start on the BOTTOM peg of the warping board and not the top peg? I do it every time.

Diary of a Madwoman

This isn't a good thing. When you see my travel knitting bag and my Kindle in one place, things are bad. Very bad.

It means I am spending a lot of time doing this-again.

Things may be bad but I looked fabulous, darling, in my latest Color Affection. Hospitals are cold.

It was very sobering to walk into the emergency room and be greeted by a sign already warning of Ebola. Gulp.

I am an admitted germaphobe and this scared the you know what out of me.

As for the old man, it seems he is incapable of following even the simplest instructions from the doctor about keeping his new hip in place. This was our second visit to the emergency room in two weeks to pop the thing back in place. The surgeon is not happy. I am not happy. No one's happy but Daddio, who much to my dismay, seems to be enjoying all this attention a little too much.
