Separation Anxiety

The Hugs shawl that I am donating to charity in memory of Dear Departed Doggie has been done for a while now....

...but I can't bring myself to bind it off. It feels like something important is ending that I don't want to end. I am still being a silly old goose over missing her so terribly and this has turned out to be another goodby I am not ready for.

In those first terrible weeks, the act of working on it was a huge comfort. Now, the act of knitting anything is a comfort. I read this book ages ago with a bit of skepticism about the healing properties of sticks and string but now I'm a believer.

Since I have shamed myself by writing this post, I can assure you that this shawl will be bound off, blocked and mailed by Monday. No more excuses. It's time to let go.

  1. The shawl is very pretty and I'm so glad you found some comfort in knitting it. If you're anything like me you'll have another little one by spring. :-) No amount of knitting could replace the joy I got from those little Yorkie kisses.

  2. I think you should finish it, not because you're shamed, but because once finished, it will give someone else comfort, just as it has done for you. And that will make you feel better too!

I read that book some time ago too, skeptical but was totally absorbed by it in the end.
