On the Road to Recovery

At 4 am yesterday morning I was looking at the bottle of steroids like a junkie looks at their next fix. After more than 2 weeks of the rash, I was at the end of my rope. In my absolute last ditch effort I decided to go in the complete opposite direction before I cracked open the pill bottle. Where I had been treating the itch with kid gloves, this time I decided to get rough with it. A cold basin of spring water, a sprinkle of baking soda and finely ground oatmeal paired with a textured washcloth helped me scrub my middle of the night blues away. I had nothing to lose.

After a small dab of cream here and there.....

....and one of these, I was ready to try and get some sleep. I woke up hours later feeling much better. The spots weren't gone but they are fading. I couldn't believe my luck.

Daring The Mister to go near the thermostat, I kept the temps on low all day (it was 90+ here and extremely humid-again) and did my scrubbing routine every four hours followed by more allergy pills. Instead of just treating the symptoms, I went at it methodically and I felt much better for it.

I stayed cool and dry in front of the fan with my latest read and napped on and off for the entire day. It was the first time I could lie down in ages without my back feeling like it was on fire. Anything that dared to itch got an ice pack on it stat.

Around dinner time it started to rain with the promise of a 20 degree drop in temps and a lowering of the humidity. At last, sweet relief.

  2. Oh this is so over with! You poor thing Deborah. Nothing like a simple itch taking over your whole body for torture.

  3. I feel like I am constantly following and agreeing with Delighted Hands, but yes! Me too! I love Flavia. I'm glad you are finding some relief. You so deserve it. I would love a bit of that rain, but honestly I'm glad it's in the 80s not the 90s anymore and I'm grateful for the teeny weeny breeze...
