Crying Uncle

I gave up. In spite of all the signs of approaching fall, the temps have been in the 90's with humidity that could melt stone. In this heat, my poor spotty self became too miserable to bear. Even though I think they are on the run, I've had one uncomfortable night too many. I needed help.

Yesterday, I packed up Undine and was off bright and early to the doc's. He took one look and said "I've seen a lot of that this summer. It's been too hot for too long". Then he threw me a prescription and was out the door telling me over his shoulder to stay cool and dry.

He couldn't have cared less what my spots were all about. He didn't want to hear my carefully rehearsed explanation of what I thought was going on. He knew the only thing to stop spots of any kind were steroids so he gave me $2 worth.

The funny thing is that I've yet to work up the courage to take them. I'm scared to death of pills but it makes me feel better to know they are here. I'm giving some cortisone cream I picked up with the prescription a day or two and if that doesn't do it, I guess I'll just have to put on my big girl panties and take those pills. For now, I've got the AC cranking and the fan blowing. I'm not going out until it cools off. That may be a while.

  1. You won't believe how much those steroids will help. And the beautiful thing about steroids, is in small doses (which is what he gave you), the side effects are pretty much non-existent. It's only when you take them for extended periods (weeks on end) of time that you have to worry. Take them, you'll feel relief in very short order.

  2. I've had to take them lots of times. They start out making you feel like Superwoman and then at the end of the course you are a worm but they will kick the itch cycle out of the park. Go for it.

  3. I wouldn't have the patience to wait any longer. You deserve some relief.

  4. Well now that is very disappointing. I dont like getting treated like that by my doctors. Do they have a nurse practicioner in the practice you can see? Love your sock. Our weather broke aroudn 04oo. It is 70s sunny and breezy today with none of the oppressive humidity of late.

  5. I don't mind most pills, but steroids are major and you need to take them with care. Still, I think you should do what you need to do to feel more comfortable. It's been hot in the Midwest, too, so I feel your pain -- but without bumps!

  6. I'm seriously impressed you held out for 2 weeks. I'm surprised the Dr. wasn't that interested in the why of it all.
