The Streets of Laredo

I bought my TdF fiber last September. It was the Streets of Laredo festival colorway from Dragonfly Fibers that benefited a charity for refugees at the border. I thought it was a bit on the wild side but it was for a good cause so I brought it home with thoughts of this year's Tour. Little did I know at that time what a nightmare this summer would turn out to be. Who would have thought. Steven King maybe.

I have to say that the fiber is.....odd. It's Polwarth and silk and it's very raggedy. I've never seen this in a commercially processed braid before. There were loose bits everywhere.

It was hard to split for spinning but I managed three lopsided nests.

The singles have a very tweedy look and a very tweedy feel. It's not very soft for Polwarth which is strange.

My other TdF plan for this year was to finish up Trinidad, the California Red fleece I washed and carded last year. I just can't bring myself to do it in this unholy remodeling mess. There is something about all that loose fiber flying around in my boxes of foodstuff. I think I'll have to stick to the tamer commercial stuff for the duration.

  1. I do like your new fleece's colors but I'm disappointed not to see Trinidad being spun this year. I think it's a beautiful fleece. This is a very, very strange year indeed. We're still trying to decide if it's safe for us to drive from here to Nebraska two weeks from today so we can see Dennis's sister and the rest of the family. I worry about taking something to them or getting something from someone along the way or there.
Life is absolutely insane right now. Add the move on top of it and we're both pretty stressed right now.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  2. That fiber is gorgeous. I think it is hard to concentrate on anything this year with all that is going on. It does feel like a Stephen King novel, which is not good! Stay safe.

  4. Streets of Larado is spinning up much prettier than expected. Beautiful, if not soft.

  5. I really like the way the Dragonfly is spinning up. Those colors are really pretty and it looks like they may play well together.

  6. I love seeing your spinning. Some day I'll have to do more of it on my older wheel that I kept. I sold my fancy Kromski wheel as it had so many ways to adjust it - it drove me nutsl. Have a good Sunday! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)

  7. I would never have guessed that was Polwarth fiber! That said, it sure is a very pretty colorway and will be interesting to see how it plies up! Have a good spin with it!
