Friday Fluff: The Third Wheel

I dug out the last of my spinning wheels this week and claimed a corner of the living room for it. My other two wheels are in an opposite corner. The look I'm going for now is a fiber workshop that's taking place in an Ikea. It may be odd to some but it's starting to feel like home to me again.

I'm spinning the last of my MDSW fiber stash on it. I used to have a big bag of the pretty stuff but this was it. That's sad. It's BFL in the Emerald Isle colorway from Misty Mountain Farms one of my favorite vendors.

That poor little braid has been sitting on the shelf watching his friends get chosen over it for years because I thought it was ugly. Boy, was I wrong.

The spindles are still seeing some action and got a wind off this week. I've been sitting on the floor and spinning in between coats of paint. We should be done the hallway today. Five doors make it slow going PLUS The Mister managed to go outside and get stung on his hands 5 times by wasps trying to take out the trash. I may be painting alone today if the swelling doesn't go down.

Warped

Yesterday did indeed turn out to be hall painting day but I had an early morning chore I had to attend to first. The warp that I have been winding was on one of the hallway doors and had to be moved off the warping board and onto the loom.

I haven't done any of this in ages so I asked The Mister to give me a hand. It really takes two to get it done right. I have figured out how to do it by myself but I didn't have time to fool around.

The whole time he's helping me crank he's giving me the side eye. He doesn't understand why I need any more handwoven dishtowels when I already have made all of these. This is from a man with two whole bookshelves full of car models he can't stop making.

Before we could start painting I had to go dig out something I could use for painting clothes and find my designated painting crocks. You can see by the vintage splotches that I paint everything one color. White. Actually the paint I am using for the living area is called Distant Gray. It's a very pale gray that The Mister insists is just white because I suppose it actually is.

The hardest part of the whole day was not to die from laughing when The Mister showed up in his "painting" clothes. He's a very neat painter so I am happy to report that Charlie Brown made it through the day just fine.

Wednesday Walkabout, WIPs and Watercolor

I confess that I did not get that painting done on Monday. It was supposed to rain and the humidity was terrible so I put it off for a better day when I could open the windows. That should have been yesterday but it was too pretty to stay in-so we went out for an early morning walk to look at boats. I should be painting today. We'll see.

As for WIPs, the socks are getting close to the heel.

Eleven is almost done. I'm at the boring neck which always takes me forever to finish.

Eleven would have been done if I hadn't gotten all fired up about something else. This is what happens when you clean out the stash closet. I found the bag of leftovers from last year's Fright Club hat that I LOVE. I love it so much I made it twice in two weights. Now I want some mitts to go with the worsted weight Swish version. I was up until two o'clock on Monday night starting, stopping and ripping until I got it right because I am flying blind here making it up as I go along. I think I'm on the right track now. I did have to mix up the colors because I have more of some than I have of others and that's fine. They will be siblings.

And........as for watercolor, now that the baby sampler is out of the downstairs craft room I can make all the mess I want so I did. My plan has always been to swatch out all of my many watercolor sets. I've done a few of them but have many, many more to go. This week I did those fun little pull out paints by Meeden. All I can say is that I hope I do better with that hallway painting than I did with these. I made quite the mess and that rag I used ended up being the best looking thing of all...lol.

Tiny Needle Tuesday

The baby sampler is done. All I need now is a name and a date and it's off to be framed.

That finish leaves a hole in my project schedule so I went looking for something to fill it. I've got plenty of choices. I do believe it's the sheep's turn to be an FO. There's so little left to do.

When I went to clean out the basket I was using for the baby sampler I found this unfinished thing in the bottom.

It's not unfinished now. It took two tries to get the felt on the back sewn on right. I ended up machine stitching it because my hand stitching looked terrible. The machine stitching looks great. I also put the tassel in the wrong place. It was supposed to go in the loop under 2022 but I forgot and poked a hole in the bottom. Oh, well...only we know it's wrong.

I also found the patterns for all those adorable stacked critter projects that I just bought but I wouldn't let myself start one until I finished Arctic Circle Santa that slowed down and came to a halt with the beading. I'm not a fan but I will say there was beading happening yesterday. I really want to get at those stacked critters.

Getting Stuff Done

Yesterday did turn out to be a Sew, Sew Sunday-a marathon one.

I got up at 6 and scrubbed the house from top to bottom so nothing would get in my way. I got the two aprons cut out and kitted up. Now I just need to sew them all together.

And I did get the backing for the Sunflower quilt pieced together and the whole thing all sandwiched and ready to quilt. Valerie was sweet enough to offer to quilt it for me if I sent her the top and if I had seen that comment before I had started I might have taken her up on it. It was a BEAR. It took me four hours of fiddling and dragging, pinning and unpinning, ironing and smoothing to get it finished. Now that the hard part is over I think I can tackle the quilting one block at a time after I move things around in the sewing room to make some space for it. It's going to be a challenge but I do like a challenge.

Before I get started on it I am going to make some placemats that  hopefully will match the hexie table runner that I am working on. I really need some placemats right now so that's a mission I need to be on-after painting of course. Today I have to paint the hallway and all that new molding we just put up.

And....thanks again, Valerie for your kind offer. Knowing all too well the time and energy it takes, I am in serious awe of your generosity.

Sew, Sew Sunday

The weather took a turn for the better and my brain has turned to mush. I just want to sit and stare out of the open window and feel the cool breeze from a world that is finally accessible again. I was supposed to be painting the hall today but the spirit wasn't willing. I did manage to finish sewing all the binding on the baby quilt.

This was such a joy to work on that I'm sad it's done. I need to throw it in the wash and then pack it up and send it off. The new arrival is only weeks away.

I'm not sure how I did it but in my stupor I also finished the Sunflower top. Look at it. It's huge. What on earth was I thinking?

You can't even see the borders in the photo-it's that big. I'm going to have to drag that around the Juki and that won't be fun. Or....I could hand quilt it on a hoop-but that wouldn't be much fun either.

The Mister is off playing golf again today and I'm either going to sandwich up that big quilt or make an apron out of this material I found in the apron stash. Or maybe I'll just sit on the couch and stare out of a window. I guess it depends on how much Diet Coke I have in the fridge. Something's gotta knock me out of this dream state. It must be all the fresh air going to my brain.

Hall Duty

How it started.

How it ended.

Over the past few years we've been working our way from room to room replacing all the old wood molding with white. It was finally the hallway's turn. It was our staging area for all the bookshelves and cabinets during the big remodel so it was the last area to go. We'll be getting out the paint as soon as we can open the windows. They say it might be this week but I'll believe it when I see it.
