Finally learning how to chain ply on the wheel has changed my life.

I have bags and bags of beautifully dyed (not by me) fiber that I would never spin because the barber pole stripe would just ruin it.

When I anxiously pulled my newly plied Merino off the niddy noddy this morning I almost passed out when it didn't all kink and twist up into an unusable mess like it usually does. This photo was taken before soaking and thwacking. Seriously. I am still in shock. It's not perfect, but I seem to be heading in the right direction, at last.
I would like to learn how to do this, too. Do you recommend any particular videos or tutorials? How did you learn?
ReplyDeleteAbby Franquemont had an article in Spin Off a few issues ago that made my light bulb come on. There are tutorials on You Tube but I still didn't get it until I learned how to do it, in slow motion, on a very light drop spindle first. It it the rhythm that is hard to learn and the wheel is just too fast when you are first learning.
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
