Testing, Testing....
Other than my fruitcakes, I've been dragging my feet about holiday baking this year but I did take out the little pizzelle maker last night.
I thought I'd test out a few recipes but this wasn't it. They turned out dry and brittle.
I have one of those wooden things you use to roll them up krumkake style while they are hot but most of them broke.
I like to fill them up with ice cream for dessert. The Mister bought me a little cup of Peppermint Stick for my birthday. A spoonful or two is all I can handle at a time these days so that little cup will last me forever.
And.....I've also started testing the soap I made in October. It's had a nice, long rest.
I'm not going to lie, it's different. Remember, I had to change my formula because the price of some of my usual butters and oils went through the roof this year because of crop failures. It's not terrible but it's softer and I don't think it lathers as well. The good news is that it didn't bother my sensitive skin. It's actually been fun to play with because it feels a bit more "slippery" than my old soap-or maybe it's just my imagination. I do get carried away sometimes and think too hard about such things. It's just soap.
Isn't it fun to overthink things? I often do that, too, until I tell myself that it's just soap, or whatever it is I'm fussing about. Have fun eating pizzelles and using your soap!
ReplyDeleteBaking is actually one thing I'm not doing for Christmas this year. My brother and his family aren't visiting until the new year due to scheduling issues, and we haven't heard if Dave's Mom is coming or not. My parents are going to come on Christmas day, so I'll make a turkey - but both Dave and Dad are sugar free, so there's no sense making a pile of treats. Mom's going to make a pie and that will be that!
ReplyDeleteYour treats do look so tempting though!
The cookies look great--I would fill them with whipped cream and munch away!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm cutting back and only make three kinds of cookies and tim and I continue to negotiate what those will be (at the moment, gingerbread cookies have been replaced by cookies that are supposed to taste like pecan pie). I'll be baking this weekend!
ReplyDeleteOh the soap looks beautiful. Hershey's ice cream is so good. Well at least in baking you could eat your "mistakes."
ReplyDeleteEverything is so lovely and comforting.
ReplyDeleteI've never had Hershey's ice cream. I didn't know they made it. My favorite is Tillamook from the Oregon coast which was everywhere in Spokane. Here I have to search a bit to find it.
ReplyDeleteI think your cookies look yummy. Chocolate pudding would be good with them. Even broken ones mixed in! :-)
Thank you for your email. I knew you would understand. I appreciate you so much.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
