TNT: A Happy Surprise
The birdy thing is now finished-again. I counted very carefully this time around.
Patchwork Automne has several new blocks finished but I'm putting this and Matter's House away until next month because....
...Halloween. I was beyond happy when I took this out and realized I was almost finished. It will be finished this year if I have to stay up all night and do it. I've been working on it for years.
As for soap, I did something I've never done before. I used some beeswax in my batter. It was a terrifying experience because you have to keep your oils and your lye over 150 degrees to keep that wax melted. The addition of honey makes it even hotter and it can turn into a volcano if you are not careful. I had to work fast with very hot stuff. You can't make any mistakes.
Supposedly beeswax is good for your skin and makes a nice, hard bar of soap. I had an unopened package of it so I did some homework and gave it a try. Right now it's sitting in its mold. I'm going to leave it there until the other hard oils get here which should be tomorrow. Then it's back to work.
Making soap sounds scary!
ReplyDeleteI had forgotten all about your fun Halloween piece. You can certainly finish it this year!
ReplyDeleteYou've got several weeks to finish up that Halloween sampler and I know you'll do it. It looks like a bunch of brown filling in but I know it's way more time-consuming than it appears. Good luck with the beeswax!
ReplyDeleteThe Halloween needlework looks awesome! I hope it will be displayed when complete. It would make me smile every time I looked at it.
ReplyDeleteI just remembered I bought that sampler chart last year after loving yours--I think it might be too late to get it going though!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you are going to finish the halloween one--your are so close!
ReplyDeleteI hope you can finish the Halloween piece. It is darling.
