Cutting Steeks

I have both sleeve steeks cut on Daughters Christmas sweater. I crocheted the edges and all went well with the cutting except for the fact that as suspected, I have way too much material left over. I did not need to cast on so many stitches. The folded over edge is pretty thick. I will have to get the verdict from the intended wearer when I see her next.
