Big Shot

The Mister and I got our Covid and flu shots yesterday. The folks I know that have Covid right now are NOT having a good time. They scared me into action earlier in the year than I normally start thinking about these things.

This time around we went to our grocery store and got them. We were the only ones there. The Mister came home with a couple of pounds of shrimp and some sushi and I came home with these. They are not as good as the Wawa's apple cider donuts but they weren't exactly terrible either.

While I'm laid up for a couple of days from the shots, The Mister is going to finish putting some vinyl tile down in the little utility closet under the stairs. Those shots never bother him in the least but I'll feel like death for at least 48 hours. It's still better than having Covid. The fall variant is pretty nasty, disguising itself as a stomach bug before it hits you with the rest of its ugly self. Nobody needs that.

Wednesday WIPs

The sock siblings are done. I let them marinate for a few days before I even thought about starting their mates.

Green was up first and I didn't have a great deal of trouble figuring out how much of that green I needed for the ribbing BUT that first color repeat almost did me in. Look at it. It pooled. Instead of gentle ripples I got dots. Big. Red. Dots.

I had to rip that section out and do it again with a smaller needle hoping to break up the pooling. I was semi successful. I didn't get exactly what I wanted but it was better than those awful dots.

All that drama took place on the very same day I spent hours trying to figure out how to make buttonholes in a double knit front band. There's several ways and I wanted to do the one where you didn't have to cut and weave in a lot of ends but that didn't happen. I did manage a buttonhole that fits the button so I'll consider it a win instead of a surrender.

And....someone asked me to formally introduce the autumn patchwork since I forgot to give the details yesterday. It's from Jardin Prive and it's part of a patchwork series that includes, Printemps (spring), Ete (summer), Automne and Hiver (winter). I get them from 123 Stitch. There are many more in the patchwork series and I am so tempted. I have just an itty bit to finish on Hiver and then I just may give myself permission to buy another.

Tiny Needle Tuesday

Woo hoo! Another seasonal finish. Autumn Patchwork is a done deal. I've still got winter to go but it's so close to being finished that I'm not picking it up again until December.

Matter's Choice has a new bird and a squirrel.

I put 100 stitches in Peter Rabbit this week but it sure doesn't look like it. He's got the start of a chin and that's about it.

And...the appliqueing is done my latest Dear Jane block. It's a bit wonky but getting those points right was a challenge. Dog ears work when you are sewing seam to seam but tucking them under is something else.

It's Official

Autumn must be here because look what came down my driveway yesterday. The USPS brought a special delivery from Sandflies. If anything could get me out of my bed and back on my feet, it would be a cup of pumpkin spice coffee. Thank goodness, I'm finally on the mend so I might just hobble out to the kitchen and make a pot. Thanks Sandflies! And a happy Autumn to you too!

The Lost Weekend

I could have been here yesterday but instead....

...I was doing this. Whatever I did to my back was 100% worse on Saturday. I could barely get out of bed to go eat something so I could take another handful of OTC pain killers. The Mister went to the end of the year beach celebration without me and I stayed home in misery. I'm not very good at doing nothing but there wasn't a choice. There was no way I was going to work through this level of pain. My old body was making that pretty darn clear.

On the Ball

Friday the 13th didn't play nice. I knew it wouldn't. It never does. It seems I did something to my back when I was painting on Thursday and I woke up feeling like someone had wrapped an iron girdle around my waist and then poured hot lava down my spinal column. I'm an old hand at back issues so as soon as I could move I got out my big ball and did some stretching.

At least I had the good sense of upgrading the pump recently. I bought The Mister an air mattress for those nights when we have to sleep downstairs because of the trees. That electric pump is a game changer. The last thing you want to do when your back is hurting is stamp on a floor pump for an eternity.

Freaky Friday

I'm not superstitious as a rule but Friday the 13th always gives me pause. Thursday the 12th was a good day. We started out at a new little town park down the street watching the sun come up over the bay. We got an early start because we had a lot of work to do back home.

All those new bi-fold doors and trim we put up had to be painted and it all was. Two coats. I'm hoping that the 13th turns out to be a lucky day and I won't have to put on a third coat. Fingers crossed. Painting those primed doors was no fun. That cheap wood product was very thirsty.
