Grounded

My Romney X weaving adventure is over for now. It went out with a bang.

I had loose warps all over the place. I did everything I could to try to fix them but in the end I had to unweave a large section, retie the warp and start over.

After cutting it off the loom and giving it a soak, I was not sure what I was going to end up with.

It seems I did get a "rug" out of it but I am using the term rather loosely.

 It is rather flimsy.

It has the drape of a shawl but it feels like barbed wire next to your skin so on the floor it goes, although I am pretty sure that once it hits the ground either the evil kitties or the bad little doggies will make short work of it.

Since there is plenty more Romney X where that came from, it's not going to be a tragedy if it ends up ruined. It will just give me a reason to make another-this time with the right warp.

Mind Over Matter

The massive disaster of a weaving project that has been cluttering up the sewing room is finally getting some attention. After being in time out for a few months, I was finally ready to attempt, once again, to sew all those giant panels together.

All it took was an ah ha moment. I realized I made cloth. I am going to have seams when I sew it together.

I have seams all over my quilts and I don't mind so why should this woven cloth be judged any differently?

Before It's Time

The Citron is done. I did run out of yarn on the last row but thanks to some bad kitties I found something to finish it with.

This yarn barf has been living in my yarn bowl since the cats found it during the Ravellenics and made mischief all over the house with it. It was a destined to be a part of the Sheep Heid but the feline's midnight marauding disqualified it from finishing the event.

My obsessive compulsion to hoard handspun in any amount or condition served me well-for once. Except for the missing sparkle, the black was a perfect match of color and weight for the last band of black in the Citron.

The one thing I can't capture in the photos is the sparkle. It is full of Angelina. The verdict is out on how much I like all that glitz. The second Loop batt I managed to snag off Etsy is sparkle free and I am suddenly very happy about it. The yarn itself is soft enough even with all the added metallic but it doesn't feel wearable because of its small size. It didn't turn out to be ridiculously small but I wish it were bigger.

The back isn't too bad....

..but the front is too small to be a comfy wrap. I think my Color Affection spoiled me. I am still completely in love with it and I have no desire be unfaithful.

Maybe my dissatisfaction comes from the fact that the colorway and texture is very autumnal and it is still hot as hell and humid outside. I even put on my fall apron, found a long fallish skirt and stood in front of the AC vent to see it if helped. Nah.....maybe by Halloween?

A Glowing Review

I may not have been able to weave a baby blanket but I can knit one.

I love, love, love this pattern. It is easy to memorize, easy to keep track of your place and it looks the same on the front and the back. I can see lots of these in the future. Maybe even a big one for myself.

The pattern came out of this library book that is full of afghans that I actually might consider making if I am ever snowed in for a month or two. You can get a used copy for about $6 including shipping from Amazon. One is on the way to my house right now.

Say It Ain't So

This is all I have left of my Loop Bullseye Bump that I am using for my Citron. This wouldn't be a problem except that  I am only on section 3 out of 5. I spun it a bit too thick for chain plying and as a result I don't have the yardage I need.

I kind of knew this was going to happen all along and ignored it. I was hoping the yarn gods would have mercy and create some kind of miracle but it has now become all too clear that's not going to happen. I am abandoning the rest of the sections and going straight to the ending ruffle. I hope I will have enough left for at least a little flounce on my very mini Citron.

Momma's Got a New Bag

Not only do I have a huge stash of yarn and fiber, I also have a huge stash of project bags. Here is my newest acquisition. I am already trying to think of a coordinating project to go in it. That's just sick isn't it?

On Schedule

I have been trying to put on a letter at least every other day and so far I have been able to keep up. Audible.com gets all the credit because I have made a huge dent in my backlog of books in order to get this to happen. Letters A-M were done listening to Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer (great book, terrible movie) and right now it is the Life of Pi that is floating my boat. Speaking of boats, if you haven't seen the trailer for the upcoming Pi movie, go to You Tube and watch it. It's amazing.
