I had planned on spending the weekend putting the backing on the snowflake quilt. I think I like the pale blue batik for the back and the bright blue should work for a teeny tiny binding but instead.......
....I spent the morning digging through the stash.
I dug through the Lett Lopi bin. No luck.
I dug through the regular Lopi bin. No luck. I keep a sample mitten in the bin so I remember how to make them. I've made a lot of Lopi mittens. I love them.
I dug through my giant stash of Elann worsted....
...and I found what I needed. Kind of. It's not exactly right but it's close.
You might have guessed what I was going to do with all that brown yarn. Make Bernie Mittens of course. This is one of the many free patterns trending on Ravelry. You just know I had to have a pair.
I didn't get very far after that because I ended up in Urgent Care yesterday afternoon looking pretty much like I do when I am geared up for making soap. It's the first time I have been out since February and of course I had to go to where all the sick people are. I was scared to death. My blood pressure and heart rate were through the roof. I have had a very sore, itchy mouth and throat that has been making me crazy for days and I couldn't stand it another minute. I've tried every over the counter remedy I know with no relief. After a lot of swabs, it turns out I most likely have a simple case of thrush-which I learned is just another pleasure of growing old. Golly.
This getting old thing really is not much fun. No wonder Bernie looks so grumpy. This is just how I feel. But I do love those mittens. I've got more brown yarn on the way but sadly no Lopi. They are having supply issues due to the virus I will not name.
Sorry you've been sick; hope you feel lots better soon. I just discovered the Bernie knits yesterday and have been thinking about making them in a different combo as I have absolutely no brown yarn and a super big stash which needs to be used.... Take care.
ReplyDeleteHave fun with the mittens, I hear they're all the rage right now. I'm sorry about the thrush. What do you do for it? It sounds painful. I hope you feel better quickly.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
Oh geez. At least thrush is pretty easy to treat. Your mitts will be great, when you get to them. Feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you were in the ER, that stinks, I think thrush probably does too. But Bernie and all the memes, the mittens and of course the crochet Bernie you can make on Ravelry are all perfect! Bernie is all what we need right now!
ReplyDeleteThrush that is so painful...get better soon:(
ReplyDeleteIve had candidate in my mouth Deb. It is no fun. Did they give you the stupid pills to suck on. .THey didn't work I would ask for an oral diflucan as well.
ReplyDeleteOne of may medications was contributing to thrush. And ti s not just for old people. Babies get it all the time.
Whether nursing or on bottle. Milk is sweet. Thrush loves a moist sugar rich environment. I had a great surprise yesterday. I found a soap from you, from fall, all wrapped up and purdy. It was in a bag I had kept in the car for car knitting. Joy! it feels so good on my dry hands!
I got a mouthwash that worked wonders. After two rinses I am starting to feel human again. No more hairy tongue feeling. I haven't been able to eat for days. It's really miserable. I had no idea thrush was so nasty.
DeleteI think the mittens will be fun--the dr visit not so much. I will share with you a 'secret' formula for relief from thrush (I get it when on antibiotics). This is from the dr--5ml of benadryl (I use bubble gum flavor so it is pleasant) with 5ml of maalox-mix them and swish them around in your mouth and gargle. I spit it out after 2 mins so I don't get the benadryl zombie syndrome. It really gives relief from the pain and discomfort!!!! Easy assist!
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing this. It really is miserable. Who knew?
DeleteBernie looked grumpy because he forgot his matching beret.
