Deck the Halls

Someone make it stop. That clothespin I use to mark off the Advent sweaters is moving too fast along that line.

It's been a packed eight days but yesterday morning I worked up the energy to give the place a good cleaning so I could haul out the holiday decor.

The shelves were cleared so my holiday Barbies could have their time in the limelight. I don't pack them away but they do sit behind my non-holiday dolls for the rest of the year.

Look how pretty your girl looks, Valerie. Do you know how tempted I am to go looking for more of these vintage Christmas queens? I'm sitting on my hands.

The last thing I did was to clear out the spinning corner and haul out the tree. I'm going to confess right now that I did not have a good time putting it up. I found it tedious and skipped a lot of my ornaments. Those boxes under the tree are still filled with the ones I've collected over my almost 72 years. They are all precious to me but I only have so much room and so much energy anymore.

  3. You did a very good job on the decorating! I put up less 'fuss' each year also!! I do like your mini sweater advent string---I remember you making them all!

  4. I keep my eye out in the thrift shops... and I promise, if I see any that are a steal, I'll be snapping them up and sending them to you! I don't love the dress on this years' version, but they have a red-headed doll that is just so pretty. I almost want to buy it, lol!

    1. My plan was to buy every year's doll from now on but they can't compare to the older ones so I haven't been tempted. I do love the red head Barbies. My original one was a red head bubble cut. They are so hard to find and when you do they cost a fortune.

  6. I love all of your beautiful decorations. I remember you making the sweaters when I was making the tiny socks for Piper's advent calendar. Your tree is beautiful. We're not even putting ours up and I do miss it. I just packed all of my Barbies today to take to "J". We're going to have to pay for an extra suitcase! Yikes!
    Blessings,

  7. When I was a child my mother always decorated the entire house and it was a lot of work but always looked lovely. I used to do the same at my house before I got married. My DH really does not enjoy a decorated house - he thinks it looks cluttered.
Then 25 years ago my mother died 21 days before Christmas and for many years i just did not have a Christmas spirit to decorate or hardly even celebrate. It just reminded me of her too much. After I had my daughter I made much more effort and she absolutely adores Christmas. I also tried to create new traditions with her.
I still do not have out the majority of my Christmas things - many of which I received from my mother. Holidays can be hard

    1. I totally understand all of this. My mom died right before Thanksgiving and my grandmother died on Christmas Day. Those were very hard years. Christmas has always been a roller coaster of emotions for me. I swing from jolly to Scrooge from day to day.

  8. Your decked halls look very festive. I agree with you about all the tree decorations. I've collected ornaments since leaving home to teach school but I don't get them all out anymore. At 74 and 76 we have opted for a smaller simpler tree. And yes, the holidays can be hard.
