Some Sweater Talk
Look what I did. I used the machine to sew in the sleeves on Bon Ami. Mattress stitch be damned. I took Arne's shortcut and used the machine after basting them in place. The whole process took less than a half hour.
Before I did the second sleeve I tried the whole thing on to see if it worked and it worked.
The only thing left to do now is sew down all the facings.
Now that Bon Ami was a success Chestnut is back into play. I enlarged the chart and made cards for each pattern section so I could see what I'm doing.
I'm not sure what to do with the Ski Sweater. It was a great travel project all summer while we were traveling back and forth to babysit but it's been neglected ever since. I think it might re-emerge in January. The sight of some snow might re-ignite my mojo for it.
Great idea!!
ReplyDeleteI had no idea that you could use a machine for sweater sleeves, but that sweater is gorgeous! Get those facings sewn down so you can wear it and show off your skill!
ReplyDeleteAllover color work is on my mind. These are beautiful sweaters
ReplyDeleteBon Ami is beautiful. So are the others. I've never heard of sewing in sweater sleeves with a machine but just look at you! It worked perfectly and that's a gorgeous sweater. You need to wear it every day! :-)

Fantastic! The sewing machine, huh? I've wondered about that... Now I know that it's possible.
ReplyDeleteOh the sweater!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful sweater. You are brave to sew the sleeves with a sewing machine. It sure worked out well. Enjoy wearing that sweater. I did see that the Farmer's Almanac is predicting a cold snowy winter across much of the country. Our sweaters will get some good wear.
ReplyDeleteOk - now you've got my wheels turning - not that Iv'e made a sweater in ages!
