Giving Thanks Pt. 1
Pup and I slept on the couch Wednesday night so I could be up bright and early to get food prepped. First was my grandmother's infamous jello salad. Carrots and pineapple in orange jello topped with mayonnaise. Everyone in the family hates it but I love it. It tastes like Thanksgiving memories to me.
Then it was some Spinach Artichoke dip that had to be mixed. I was hauling all this up to Daughter's to be baked. I should have just chucked this whole thing in the trash before I left because it was terrible. I’m never making that again.
I gave a big sigh of relief when I was done chopping vegetables for a relish tray. I was certainly giving thanks at this point. I was thankful that this was all I had to do other than knit 2 hours in the car on the way up.
That’s a great old salad recipe…it DOES taste like Thanksgiving! I like that dip too…and veggie trays are the best! Bet you had a wonderful time…it’s not the food, it’s the people that make the party! Enjoy a nice weekend, Virginia
ReplyDeleteMy mother always made lime jello with pears and carrots. I would make some for the nostalgia factor but I know that nobody would eat it. Enjoy your leftover orange jello salad!
ReplyDeleteThis year I got so much done on Wed that I even got to sit down for an hour on Th morning! Your veggies look great!
ReplyDeleteI remember a jello salad like that from my childhood. Nobody in my immediate family will eat jello in any form except strawberry pretzel salad.
ReplyDeleteI did a spinach artichoke dip too. What went wrong? Mine is artichoke hearts, spinach, mayo, and Kraft sprinkle cheese, microwaved for five minutes.
ReplyDeleteNo Jell-O salad at Thanksgiving? Blasphemy!
ReplyDeleteI remember my Mom making that same jello for Thanksgiving. It sure brought back memories seeing your post. I've been away from the computer for two days. Just enjoying family time.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Betsy
