And Then There Was None

Bad weather is like having a baby. As soon as Mother Nature hands you a beautiful day you forget all the misery.

It was 40 degrees today and sunny. That's my kind of weather. When The Mister suggested we go out and move all the wood I jumped at the chance to get out of the house.

I loaded and he stacked and we had the job done in about an hour. All that is left of the big pile is a few sticks and some ratty tarps.

Now what we have is a big stack of wood. That should keep The Mister happy for the rest of the winter-which I hope is more like today than last week.

I am really sorry that I didn't get a photo of The Mister falling down the hill with the wheelbarrow when he was trying to move it around front to the pile of wood. All those tire tracks were his attempts to crawl back up. Trust me it was funny. Very funny.

  1. Well done! Our wood pile isn’t being used much because the wood is still too green. Poor guy. That looks like a long hill to try to get back up.
    Blessings,

  4. Oh dear...hoping The Mister wasn't hurt...though I imagine not if you were laughing. That looks like a big hill to try to come up in the snow. 60 by Friday!! probably will be even warmer for you!!

  5. A good laugh is a needed tonic! Your wood pile is so lovely. Our wood is still in round logs. We have to split wood that we have from cutting the dead evergreens down the last two autumns. The burn better that way of course.

  6. That woodpile brings back memories. In the house I grew up in, the kitchen was an addition, built years after the house (but long before we moved in). While it was HUGE, for some reason, who ever built it, didn't hook it into the central heating. Instead, they plunked a woodstove in it and called it a day (when we moved in, it was one of those old woodstoves you could cook and bake in, but Dad replaced it with a smaller, more effcient pot-bellied stove). So every fall, Dad would have four or five cords of wood delivered. There was a indoor porch on the back kitchen, about the size of a small bedroom (maybe 9ft x 6 feet). We'd spend weeks (or at least it seemed like it to little me) splitting, and stacking the wood until the porch was full. It couldn't hold all the wood, so there would be a huge pile outside, and throughout the winter, so periodically, there would be a day spent transfering outdoor wood to the porch. I can still remember the smell, and wearing work gloves too big for my hands, and getting in trouble for daydreaming while everyone else was working.

  8. I bet he didn't think it was as funny as you did. Happy fires to keep you warm.

  10. Wow, that snow melted fast! Nice work on the wood pile and glad that your DH came out unscathed from his wood gathering adventure. Now if the sun would only come out here; there still is one, right?

  11. I chuckled just reading about it!
It does feel good to get moving outside. The cold spell we had really got me off that track through.
