Romney and I Don't Mean Mitt

I bought this Romney X fleece at this year's MD Sheep and Wool. I bought it because I overheard someone tell someone else that they love the stuff. I snatched up the bag and felt like I had won a prize.

In the bag and during washing it seemed like any other wool. I knew it wasn't going to be especially soft but I can deal with that.

It cleaned very easily and took dye well.

So far so good.

When I tried combing it but it seemed to dissolve into thin air. It wouldn't pull into roving.

Then I tried carding it and it exploded in the carder.

The resulting batt is like cotton candy.

I managed to gently pull the batt into very wispy nests.

Spinning was tricky at first because it wants to pull apart, but once I got the hang of it, I enjoyed it. It is like nothing I have ever worked with. Nothing.

  1. I've never spun with it, but Romney wool is my favorite ever to knit with. I'll be interested in how you feel about the final project. Beautiful spinning!

  2. I was reading along and thought...uh oh...this is never going be anything...maybe she can sell it at the cotton candy fair...
then voila you mastered it into gorgeous yarn.
I just don't know how you do it.
    I love it.
