TdF: Mini Spin

I love my mini combs and will find any excuse to use them. I am using them with the smallest of the Corriedale locks.

I am making mini nests for spinning some laceweight on one of my new Bosworth spindles. The Corriedale may not be very soft, but it is very easy to spin thin.
As usual, I have jumped into this Tour de Fleece thing headfirst and now I have more projects than I have time. Given the fact that I am still working on last year's project, I shouldn't be surprised.

World Class Spectator

I've been doing a lot of this.

And that.

While watching a lot of this.

So I have something to spin while I watch that.
Isn't summer great?

TdF: Corriedale

The Corriedale locks are taking their sweet time drying.

When they are dry I have to comb them one at a time and pull them through the diz.

You can spin through one of these little nests in no time at all so it takes a lot of work to have enough to make it worth your while.

Not only is the Corriedale a lot of work, but now that it is getting spun, it feels a bit on the rough side. Now I am not sure what I will do with it and I have lot (12 pounds) of it to do something with!

The 4th on the 3rd

Our little beach town has its 4th of July celebration on the 3rd every year. Since this is the bay state of Maryland, we always get a bushel of blue crabs.

Soon to be Daughter in Law brought flowers and watermelon.

I picked up some corn at the market.

The Mister charred it on the grill after brushing it with olive oil and garlic. It was good.

Then there were sparklers-but first there was rain.

It dampened the fireworks. The city still shot them off over the bay but we decided not to stand in the rain to see them. The sparklers were enough.
Happy 4th!

Tour de Fleece: Let the Spin Begin

After a day of preparation, I finally have enough fiber ready to spin. I have not one but two projects going. Jacob on the Traveler and Corriedale on the Ladybug. I am ashamed to say that is last year's unfinished TdF project on the Traditional in the background.

While watching on day one I combed one more basket's worth of pretty Jacob nests and ...

... cranked out one more Jacob batt made from the combing scraps on the drum carder.

Once I got started on the Jacob it was hard to stop spinning as watching the colors change is quite addicting. As for the Corriedale...it is...white. Lots and lots of white. Last year I spun lots and lots of white Cormo locks and it was not a lot of fun and it is still not finished. I should have dyed all those white Corrie locks. I may still.

TdF Day 1: Loose Ends

In order to begin my Tour de Fleece project, I had to get my Easter project off of the wheel which meant plying, chain plying to be exact.

I was in a hurry and I couldn't get into that certain rhythm that you need so there are lots of little boo boo's in the finished product.

There are lumps and loops where they shouldn't be-but it doesn't bother me. I was so tired of this project that I am happy just to see it finished.

Right now it is soaking and then it will get a mighty thwacking. After that, I have no idea what will become of it. It is a lovely soft Polwarth so I am sure something will come to me-eventually.

TdF Eve

Against my better judgement, I joined a Tour de Fleece group on Ravelry this year. I hope that it will give me the push I need to wash my way through France.

I have already washed Corridale locks three times but I still have a very long way to go.

I have only about two more washing left of this year's Jacob.

It washes very easily. I may not get a project's worth by Paris but I just may get a skein.
