WWKIPD 2016

Saturday was the World Wide Knit in Public Day and it was also our annual Dragon Boat Festival.

I multitasked in the shade while The Mister chatted with friends. Shade was hard to come by. It was a blisteringly sunny day by the water and I have the sunburn to prove it. Ouch. Next year I must remember my hat and sunscreen.

I worked on my Miss Babs Maryland socks. It seemed the right thing to do. I didn't get much done because I was constantly accosted by jugglers and men on stilts. Even a mule walked by.

Aside from the few quiet minutes of knitting, it was a grueling day.

You line up to watch the races for hours out in the hot sun having your eardrums blasted by extremely loud music from the speakers that line the red hot boardwalk.

It's worth it though. The paddlers put on quite the show.

Team after team suit up for their turn to take on the other teams three at a time until the finals.

It's a long day but the participants seem to be having a blast.

Most teams have a crazy mascot that acts as the drummer. These are the Mermaids. I want to be a mermaid.

On the water, it's all go. It quickly becomes serious business with the blast of a horn.

The effort they put out is amazing.

This was my favorite team. They looked so cool flying along with all that crazy hair.

It's usually neck and neck at the finish line.

Everyone wants to go home a winner.

On shore, the roads are lined with things to eat and drink.

The beer truck was very popular with The Mister...

...and this guy. You've got to admire his spirit.

The races are held for charity so all the political people are there. This guy made me think of....

... this. I saw it on Facebook the other day and had to laugh. Jack's right. Rum is good.  Arrrrrr...
I also want to wish y'all a happy first day of summer. Now let me go find that aloe...

  5. Fun! Fun! Fun day! I didn't realize it was knit in public day until too late. But I did knit outside of my camping trailer, does that count? The boat races looked like fun, but so hot in the sunshine. I'm so glad you enjoyed the day. Now take care of the sunburn.
    Blessings,
    Betsy
