TNT: A Snow Day

I usually write my posts after dinner but I'm afraid we might lose power or wifi so this is a rare morning post that went live at midnight. It's 9 am on Monday and it's still coming down.

It's definitely much worse than expected.

I've got no problem sitting it out. I'm shifting out the stitchery projects. I finished the birds and the heart so Christmas Quaker is getting packed away for the season. I got so much farther than I expected this year but I'm bored with it now.

I told myself that this would be the year that I finish things I've started so I pulled out the tea sampler I started last spring. It's too much fill work for me but I'm going to give it one more try until some new things come from 123 Stitch. Yes, I gave in and ordered something new. Shame on me.

I finished two more Patchwork of the Crosses blocks and now only have 2 more to go. I am shocked that I stuck with this project. I thought it would be one of those things that just hung around unfinished like Dear Jane but it's addicting. I'm already planning a fancy border using up all the leftover paper pieces.

Speaking of Dear Jane, I finished D8 after a few weeks of angst with it. It's wonky but I'm declaring it finished anyway. I'm not ripping it out again. D9 is already in the works so soon I'll just forget about this disaster of a block and move on.

And.....I was blaming my baking powder for my scone fail but look at these buttermilk biscuits I made last night. No problem with their rise. They were amazing. I made six and we ate six along with a bowl of soup from the two pots of soup I made anticipating the storm.  Heating up soup on the wood stove is easy, making soup is not.
If you are in the path of this monster storm, stay safe. Hopefully, I'll be back again on tomorrow.

  1. That's a LOT of snow! I'm so glad we missed it by a hair. It's cold. Very cold. But at least we don't have to drive in the yuck. Somehow we have 6 doctor appointments so far in January. I never schedule this much in the winter, but with just getting medicare on the first. I'm playing catch-up!
Your soup and biscuits look delicious. After no carbs for almost three weeks, I'm ready to eat cardboard. :-)
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  3. You did get a lot of snow and I hope you can dig out and get out eventually. We only got about 2" but it sure is cold out there. Fingers crossed that your electricity stays on (and you get to do more crafting)!

  4. That's a good dumping! I heard the plow go down the street at 3 am and woke up to about 3 inches of snow, but it looks like that's it for us this week.

You've definitely got a lot to keep you busy while you wait out the storm. I hope you're able to build a snowman and do a little sledding too!

  5. About three inches in my corner of Wyoming. I can’t make a decent baking powder biscuit: they mostly look and probably taste like hockey pucks!
