Bedside Knitting

I haven't done this in a while but here we are. Daddio took another tumble. They called me Thursday night to say they were going to have to x-ray him this time. The last time he just ended up with two very black eyes but this time the x-rays show that he has fractured his nose. Even though I had already had my visit this week I went back yesterday to sit with him for awhile to make sure he was okay. I got lots of knitting time because he was pretty much asleep for most of it. Poor beat up old guy. What a mess.

I had been there Tuesday so I could visit and attend a very informative seminar on dementia.

It was very helpful. It was also nice to share stories with other families who are going through the same thing. In case you are wondering, we decided Daddio is a Ruby on the scale of from bad to worse. We've only got the pearl left so every visit counts these days. Golly.

  1. I’m so sorry about your Daddio. Dementia is such an awful thing for everyone involved. I’ll be praying his injuries heal quickly. About that turkey shirt at Cracker Barrell. I’m kicking myself now for not getting it. Why do I do that? I should have gotten it then. :-)
    Blessings,
    Betsy

  5. Oh Deb. Big hugs. Poor poor Daddio and you. I agree with Bridget, I think he knows on some level that someone who loves him as only family can, has been with him.

  6. I'm so sorry Daddio took a tumble.

Steve's Dad did that same thing 3 weeks ago. His bruising was awful and he had a pretty nasty gash on his head. This is the 3rd or 4th fall this year.

He is probably only a diamond on that scale you showed, but his aggression is definitely increasing.

Hope Daddio heals quickly and we'll be keeping you in our thoughts this week.

  7. My thoughts and prayers are with you both as I read this. Hope he heals quickly. A broken nose can't be fun at his age. Thank goodness he has you there.

  8. Sorry to hear about your Dad's fall. It is so hard seeing them slip away. It took my Mom about five years start to finish, well three in the nursing home. It was so tough, my thoughts are with you.

  10. So sorry to hear about your dad's fall and hope he's feeling much better today. It's tough to see someone you love go downhill like that; my stepmother had dementia also.
